More that some people have been historically poorly served by the law.

Due to the legal institutions treatment of them, not the law itself.

Not any more. But now if you utter a certain word while committing your crime you've created an even more serious crime. Call me cynical, but I have a feeling white, heterosexual males will find themselves underrepresented in the victim category and overrepresented in the defendant category of these new laws.

In the case of these crimes they do more than just bring injustice to victims but have the intention of instilling fear in the population of a specific minority. That in my opinion is worthy of a separate law.

Where do you draw the line? One could define an infinite number of minority groups. Expectant mothers, people with broken limbs, people with heart conditions, smokers, drug addicts, alcoholics, people who've dyed their hair...

Hispanics outnumber whites almost 2:1 in the city where I live. There are some dangerous Latino gangsters who scare the shit out of me when I come in contact with them, but I don't feel that I deserve special treatment under the law.

Yea because it's the white male that is always getting the shaft Rolling eyes

Another proponent of positive discrimination. How depressing.

This isn't some slippery slope, these laws aren't open to any of the categories you mentioned. Your argument doesn't apply.

You know there are some serious cases out there that deserve this type of attention. Being outnumbered by Hispanics while living in a border country to a country filled with Hispanics isn't one of them.

What a f**king nutjob Jo Brand is. She's so abhorrently wrong it's sickening.

I think I'll leave this argument and continue pretending you two aren't paranoid white folk who think everyone's out to get poor them.
I like you guys better that way.

What I am is someone who takes "all men are created equal" seriously and literally. It may be wishful thinking to hope that absolute equality for all will ever be achieved, but it's not paranoia.

That's alright Curt; I like people who apply the same rules, values, principles and judgements to EVERYONE, regardless of what minorities or majorities that they may be, or may be perceived to be, in. I don't discriminate.

On a purely statistic basis yes they still are. Sometimes it's easier to put specific legislation in place to cover a specific problem For example with rape the conviction rate is getting close to 10%, because of specific issues with evidence and this specific crime.

That said I am sick of the self defence argument used by wives who kill their husbands in cold blood. Premeditated murder is never forgivable.

Also with violence against gays, theres always been a whole raft of legal tricks for the perpetrators to dodge blame. Such as the twinkie defence and the gay panic defence.
