Apparently not - the guy offered to pay the cash into a trust fund for his child but that was overruled. The ex-wife gets the lot.

But if both parties don't agree to a clean break you're stuffed. May as well become a hermit.

Since when isn't a divorce a clean break?
Here's the story
It's not clear how she still had a claim, there's lots of speculation in the article. And the fact that she walked out on him doesn't make any difference; he might have been abusive.
I haven't read the story.
But from what I recall from when my wife divorced her ex. If you don't but this break in the divorce, yes either party can clai againist the other. However, I think that if either party remarries then that is it - game, set and match. No further claims possible.
He was still paying maintenance so she was entitled to apply to the court for a lump sum and no further payments.
That's the law but who's to say how much might have been awarded?
Possibly a lot less than £2 million.

'In one clip, Bilo gets raped by a donkey... But Rakishev (the director) denies such scenes in My Brother, Borat will cause offence. "If it was Borat's brother who raped the donkey then perhaps it would be considered outrageous, but it is the other way round," he argues.'
Wow.
"But in contrast to the original film we are not going to such a low level of toilet humour."
Donkey rape IS particularly high-brow.
