I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,682

The best thing about it was someone (on Twitter?) coming up with the term Wagatha Christie. And I bet they never got any credit.

I didn't actually read this. I saw it on the news.

The Wagatha Christie case gripped the Nation? What? Who cares. I'm only commenting because it was on the news. (The News???? Why???).
Also Coleen said she wanted to tell HER truth. Not THE truth.

Totally agree - WHY do they think people are in the slightest bit interested in a couple of old football hags having a spat - frankly Scarlett I couldn't give a shit.

Couldn't they have just met and had a scratching and hair-pulling fight.
The husbands could have shouted 'girl fight girl fight...

I might have paid to watch that, then we could watch Jamie beat the crap out of Wayne, or the other way round - like I give a f**k.

Covid inquiry...

Top British scientists nicknamed the then chancellor of the exchequer and the current prime minister- Doctor Death

Oh, and he also gave millions of pounds to companies linked to his own wife

Something else he forgot to declare

He's just Boris but with tiny tight little trousers

Ironic really, given the number of deaths, the number of businesses that were killed off and the near-death of the British economy caused by their advocated policy. A policy that even those pushing for it clearly didn't believe was necessary as they rushed off with their ladders to break it.

Labour gain both the by-election seats.

Not a huge jump in votes though, seems to be more voter apathy than anything big in Labour's favour. A majority of Tory voters not bothering to turn up seems to be a cause, but it may also be a case of "don't want to vote Tory this time, don't want to vote for the others".

But it's a by-election, none of them are usually considered massive bellwethers of opinion!

All being said, I expected Mid Bedfordshire to stay Tory. They now have their first ever Labour MP until at least the next election.

Caught a glimpse of Starmer on the news - you'd have thought he'd won the World Cup and Eurovision song contest in one swoop - poor deluded fool.

Two big Labour by-election wins in Tamworth and Mid Bedfordshire.
Do governments usually win by elections? No
Are the Tories likely to win both seats back in the next General Election? Yes.
Are Labour likely to do as well in the General Election as they did in these seats yesterday? No.
But these results are nevertheless very troubling results for the Tories. The swings were huge. Starmer's Labour are now looking very credible. All the indicators suggest the Tories are widely hated and heading for defeat.
It's not a foregone conclusion yet though.
Were there not such a serious dearth of talent within the Conservative Party, Sunak's leadership would now be under serious threat.

Bring back the lettuce woman

All true

But these weren't normal by elections

One was called because the Tory MP had to resign due to getting shit faced and allegedly sexually assaulting two men - classy

The other was called because the Tory MP was .... Nadine Dorries?!!? a serial liar who never bothered to do sod all for her constituency or show up at Parliament and threw her toys out of the pram like a spoiled little brat because she didn't get her peerage- classy

Whilst Bye Election results often mean little to the person in the street , make no mistake they resonate amongst MP's. if I was a Tory MP I would be worried for my job and all its perks and expenses,
In lay person terms this is like working for a company that is having branch closures left right and centre, it takes up the entire work conversations and batters morale.
In normal times a party taking blows like this would change its leader and often its direction. But given what they have done and who they have used over the last 13 years the Tories look tired beaten and bereft of anyone capable taking the helm and winning them the next election.
As it stands Gillian Keegan is out to smash the unions with her minimum service levels and Braverman is pushing ultra right wing views other than these two the only person left and some may say obvious choice would be Grant Schapps based on the fact that its the only role he hasn't had yet,

Interestingly, in both case Reform split the vote to the extent that the Tories might have squeaked in without them.
Despite their solemn promise not to stand down (like the solemn promise they made before!) - they will now undoubtedly go into negotiation with the Cons to see what they can get out of it.
However that will involve the Cons going more fash - so the gains from returning Reform voters would likely be off-set by more Centrist desertions.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

When the result was read out at Tamworth, the Tory candidate immediately stepped off the stage and left the building

No hand shake to the winner- nothing

Just ran off

Again - classy
