I read the news today oh boy! Page 2,657

So if I say something it must be true?

Pro tip: if you want to be famous and a celebrity, don't act like a randy disgusting beast with scores of women - it WILL result in it being splashed all over the tv, internet, papers etc

Behave like a decent human being and not a massive c*nt - you'll do just fine

Like Cliff Richard & Paul Gambaccini did?

I am not a lawyer!
But as I understand it, evidence is submitted to help determine whether a legal case has any basis in fact. If it was found to be untrue, it wouldn't help.

Personal testimony is evidence.

I just hope you're not on the jury next time I'm up before the beak!

You don't say.

Maybe so! But that point is correct.

"Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain? Brave Hungarian peasant girl who forced King John to sign the pledge at Runnymede and close the boozers at half past ten!"

Personal testimony is evidence.
So, yes. Lots !

But, methinx, it does have to be stated in court under oath.

Methinx, it is taken to be true if stated in court under oath and punished as perjury if later found to be a lie.

What's the difference between Russell Brand's defence and his penis? His defence won't stand up in court.

Exactly. As far as I'm aware (I've stopped reading all the dross after day one) none of these 'victims or survivors' has gone to the police or appointed a legal representative. They've run to the press, some of them after sitting on it (phnaaar) for twenty years.

I don't like the bloke or at least his persona as projected. Saw him on tele a few times years ago and since then I've consciously avoid anything he's on. As I said elsewhere the episode of QI he's on is the only one I have never watched. I often watch several old episodes on the trot if there's nowt else on.

As mentioned, Cliff and Gambo suffered greatly. The system isn't perfect, look at the Postmasters and that chap recently released after 17 years because the police sat on evidence that would have exonerated him.

But let the system such as it is take its course rather than the tabloid feeding frenzy we are undergoing now.

Incidentally, does anyone buy their daily paper based on the headlines they see on the rack? The press seem to think so hence the dogfight for a salacious banner. I worked with a team of mobile fitters for leccy board across the East Midlands, and everyone stuck to their daily of choice. Apart from any political slant or favoured sports reports this also ensured a good choice of crosswords come tea-break :)

"Good news for hardworking families across the country - inflation is down again. Halving inflation is my top priority because inflation eats into the pounds in your pockets and makes everyone poorer. We'll stick to the plan and continue to support you with the cost of living."

Down from 6.8% - to 6.7% today ....

Wow

Party time

There is another factor here.
After the Channel 4 program, I purposely looked at the credits to see if it said none of the victims were paid for their participation.
It did not say that.

So I will presume there was a fee.

The police and the law might see great big holes in their accusations - and they don't pay.

Jim Davidson said something very similar.
But, according to the Sunday Times "None of the four victims know each other and no one was paid to contribute."(Sky News)
They may well sell their stories to the papers now - but C4 would be well aware that paying a fee would have weakened the case considerably.

Does it ever say that at the end of a show? I've never noticed.
As discussed already there are many good reasons why rape victims might not want to go to the police.
If anyone's not telling the truth, it should soon become clear at the trial anyway.
