No piss taking here.

The thing is that some of us on here are somewhat older than some others on here (and elsewhere) and we have been subject to many a crisis (got over the contentious spelling there quite well I thought) over the years. Through the 50s, 60s, 70s... well you get the idea. And yet we're still here. We've become rather inured to it all. Rather like the boy who cried wolf.
I'm 64 this year.
I will 'get over' this crisis by being dead before it becomes a crisis.
As will most of the people on this board.
That's the problem.
It requires foresight, not an "I'm alright, Jack" mentality.
Needless to say, seeing the state of discourse in the world today, I am not filled with hope for the future.
Perhaps the much derided scientists will come to the rescue.
If they can find anyone left who believes in them.
That's what they said about all the others. That's the point.
Indeed. Lots of crises in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Suez. The Cuban Missiles. The Three Day Week. The Iranian hostage crisis.
All were tackled and confronted directly. None were resolved by ignoring them and trying to pretend they weren't happening.

Which others?
playing dumb.
And I didn't mean you about piss taking, I meant yond before you. (and he knows it - he denied it)
Breathtaking short-sightedness.
They are predictions about the future not Joanna's falling on your swede.
How are you coping with this global crisis, that is when you catch your breath.

Not playing dumb - just waiting for an answer.
As for me, I'm coping fine.
I am, as they say, alright, Jack.
I have children, who will have children, though.
Sort of my point.
Good, then it's not a crisis is it?
Greece is having a crisis and other places at the moment but it's nothing new.
The moors not far from me catch fire every year.
It's global warming without the word crisis tagged on but none of you will not have it
Is a lit fuse a crisis?
Or just a bit of wire on fire?
Who's playing dumb now?
Doing my bit, I haven't had the heating on for months.
100 years ago they were digging a new well for the Crown Inn in Allenton 3 miles south of Derby. They discovered 127 bones that came mostly from a hippopotamus, with a few belonging to rhinoceros and elephant. "The deposits have been dated to the Ipswichian Interglacial, approximately 120,000 years ago. The presence of a hippopotamus indicates that the climate was warmer than today. The winters would have no prolonged periods of frost and the average summer temperature would have been above 18 °C " (cr. Wikipedia)
I wonder how warm it was in Rhodes back then but mankind obviously got through it.
Forgive me if I don't join the current panic.
Our needs were simpler then, as I think we were all Neanderthals.
No change there, then.
Poverty is the best way to save the planet. My mum brought us up on hand me downs, foraging and home grown veg, as if WWII was still on. Now we're all middle class, people see our non consumerism as socialism.
Yet the Uber powerful (Putin etc...) are still blowing massive holes in the ozone - in the name of communism ?? Greenpeace missed a trick by not assassinating the concrete wall builder Trump, who would have suspected them ? Research shows wealth parity (not communism) makes communities happier too. Balance.

So it's not a crisis if it doesn't affect you? Just so we're clear...

I know Putin was in the KGB. He's not really a communist now though is he?
True, but pure "communism" doesn't exist, human nature won't allow it. But he's part of the "communist block". My American friends call the NHS a "commie regime" ! The written word is boxy , maybe I should have painted a picture ?
