I read a report last week about a woman that had her bag stolen with her phone and bank card in it.
The thieves got into her bank account and emptied her current and savings accounts. And used her card until it was refused.
Santander said the thief used her pin so she had been careless with it and refused to refund her.
Today the case was on a radio 4 program and a specialist knew how they did it.
Her phone was locked and there was no pin number in her bag.
They downloaded the Santander banking app on another phone and used the forgotten banking pin option.
(They used her card for account details)
A one time code was sent to the woman's phone and it popped up on her phone, even though it was locked.
They used that to get into her account. I didn't know this but somewhere in your banking app is your pin for your card
They transferred her savings into her current account 2.5 grand at a time, each time they got a message 'is this you? They phoned the bank to say yes.
They then spent the lot.
They have now refunded her after realising the flaw.
Be very careful you don't leave your phone and card in the same place. It's easy to get access.
A clever fraud.
