This thread is for like, grownups or something.
I don't know what you're all on about.
I read the news today oh boy! Page 234
Bum
Better?
All fixed!
Quote: DaButt @ September 22 2010, 9:01 PM BSTThat's just not true. More legislation doesn't mean that nothing will ever go wrong. That's like saying that making murder illegal put an end to all murders.
I didn't say more legislation, but better regulation. Instead of letting multi-billion industries bitch slap us, how about we make them follow a few basic guidelines? Oh wait, that makes me a socialist terrorist sympathiser in the United States of Foxerica.

Saying that just makes you sound stupid; think before you start spouting off like that.
Do you really think that there aren't "basic guidelines" (and much more) already in place? Oil companies know that spills are catastrophic -- both in economic and environmental terms -- and will harm their profits and their ability to pump oil in the future, so you can rest assured that they do everything they can to avoid accidents. It's obvious that their precautions were not enough in this case and procedures will change, but your vision of oil-dripping, money-gobbling megacorps running amok with no regulation is a hallucination.
There's a hell of a lot of that going around sadly, DaButt. Such pathetic, easy-target potshots seems to have become the accepted 'wisdom'; certainly a popular line to spout.
Yes but the problem is the need for oil is outstripping safety regulations. Slowly in the Western world granted.
But BP felt it worthy risk to use one of those wacky bendy straw drills on the US coast. Canada is producing toxic waste by the 1000s of tonnes to get at oil from shale sands. And the move for Antarctic drilling is being discussed again.
Regulations are by and large great (unless you're Nigeria or some other corrupt poo hole)
But the massive growing demand for oil is very scary
I just finished reading At Home by Bill Bryson.
In his last paragraph (and I don't know how true this is but I tend to believe Bill) he states that of all the energy produced on the planet since the start of the Industrial Revolution, half has been consumed in the last twenty years.

Coincides with the invention of the Rampant Rabbit...
You speak in riddles, Sirrah.
I know someone who will enjoy the replies to this article!
Hey Old Rocker!
have you been away?
Or have I just been having early nights for a while?

No, I've bin around.
Just had a few problems with certain topics that made me question whether or not I was in the right place.
Bit more at ease now.
Intriguing!
