Is there any way of telling a producer that you like his work without coming across as a sycophant?
Sycophantic letter
nope
You don't HAVE to tell a producer you like their stuff. But I think it's always wise to contact a producer / company whose stuff who you do genuinely admire. So for instance, I think Baby Cow make some cracking shows, as do Objective. So I'd be targetting them first.
You need to think who you'd like to work with, then go ahead and pester them.
Hi, Lee. I know that I don't HAVE to tell a producer I like his stuff - but I wanted to. (It was Ash Atalla) Just I came across all oily on the page! My post here was slightly tongue in cheek.
As a newbie to the forum I have been catching up on threads. Get a sense that things are going well for you and you have come a long way since your first busty barmaid piece set in the pub. (I think that was you.) Must be a nice feeling to have people excited by your writing.
Finally, you don't really mean pester-pester do you - I thought we sent our stuff and waited. I am very bad at pestering people, as I know how much I dislike people pestering me!
Appreciate the replies, advice etc

Well in the past I've sent producers introductory letters saying I'm a fan of their stuff but I usually qualify it by saying "sorry if that sounds bumlicky" or something similar. What you're trying to put over is simply that you like their stuff, and you think they'll like your stuff too. I wouldn't go too-indepth, just a paragraph or two is enough. These people get hundreds of emails a week (or more) so yours should stand out as not sounding too desperate, yet confident, and keep it nice and brief.
The very worst that can happen is they say "no". And by pestering I mean if they haven't replied in a few weeks, just nudge them. Some people are terrified of being a nuisance and leave it months but I say sod that. Half the battle is getting your name known. In fact it's probably more like 2 thirds, believe me.
And yes, the busty barmaid sitcom was my firsrt one. It sucked quite a lot.
