But he's only evil for like a minute! Then he goes even nicer than before!

I'm going to be humming songs from it for the rest of the night now.

Aaaactually I have it on DVD somewhere!

Yes! Of course, but didn't that bit scare you the first time you watched it?

Wait, how old were you then?

Wasn't having a moan, Mick, always a good topic.

Now I recall, I had to watch quite a lot of Audition with my hands over my face.

Didn't think it for a minute Griff. :)

Totally agree with Audition too. A complete head-f**k of a movie.

I was a little bit stunned by Empires list. I was expecting it to be full of 'Halloween Remake's scary init?' type films so when it gives the nod to both Day of the Dead and Salem's Lot in the undead sectionI was impressed.

Like most lists they come down to the individual and what is scary for him or her. Overall though I think Empires lists are not that bad.

Def.

I really don't remember (see below)! I was probably a bit :|, but I doubt I was actually scared.

Er, I dunno. Like, 5 maybe? Something like that. I had it on double-bill VHS with The Witches.

Wow. Well, you were braver than me then. Lottttts of films scared me when I was little. Especially that and Ghostbusters. Maybe I got too involved.

Perhaps I'm just more British than you are.

(I now *have* American Werewolf In London. I will watch it soon.)

Oh f**k, really? :)

I would say don't watch it alone, but you probably won't even be scared. :(

No, probably not!

And it's not like I have anyone to not watch it alone with, is it? Eh eh ehhh?

Oooh, attitude. Laughing out loud

Make Alex come down.

That sounds saucy.

I think perhaps you're quite a few years late.

Does anyone remember a Disney film from the 80s called 'Mr. Boogedy'?

It used to scare me shitless.

I really didn't like most of their picks. But here are mine.
The Most Terrifying Scenes Featuring The Undead: Zack Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead. I tooooootally agree. That scene scared me for life! That whole movie put fear into me.
The Most Terrifying Scenes Featuring Satan: Christopher Walken's Satan in "The Prophecy" gave me the hibbie-geebies. So creepy, so confident.
The Most Terrifying Ghost Scenes: I know everyone likes to rip on this movie but the ghosts in the "6th Sense". That kid with the gun shot in his head?! That gave me nightmares! And the Ring really kicked my ass! Even after being warned and ready for it that scene was still terrifying.
The Most Terrifying Monster Movie Scenes: Their list of monsters were SUPER lame in my opinion. Especially with so many great monsters. For me Freddy always terrified me and I had never seen a full movie. That's pretty potent stuff. Pennywise might be a close second. He messed up my childhood...couldn't cross a bridge at night without freaking out.
The Most Terrifying Slasher Scenes: Perhaps its just because it came out when I was a kid but I like Child's Play. 1 and 2 are great. Besides that I always thought Slasher films were the lowest form of horror. Well...perhaps except Slumber Party Massacre the only Slasher film written by a woman and directed by another. Fun stuff but not really scary.
The Most Terrifying Science Fiction Scenes: Event Horizon...yup...it was disturbing stuff.

My very top scariest scene ever is from near the end of "A Room For Romeo Brass". Paddy Considine standing on a lawn threatening the kid's father with a hammer. I guess that would be "Non-Horror", or possibly "Psycho".

Don't think I've ever been "terrified."
But there have been some great cinematic moments.

I loved The Thing when it came out for the groundbreaking special effects. (NO CGI there!)

The Jurassic Park T Rex scene (when you first see the T Rex) was superb at the cinema.

Cloverfield was pretty cool at the cinema... loved the "home made" look of it, but I'd have preferred if you actually never got to see the monster.

But I think the best chiller ever (and original) has to be Blair Witch Project, where, quite simply, staring at the dark was scary.
Oh and that abrupt ending!
