Eranda Goes Shopping

THE CAMERAS ARE WITH ERANDA AND HIS FAMILY WHO LIVE IN THE HEART OF THE MALAWI FAMINE.

We see Eranda wave goodbye to his family as he leaves the village at sunrise.

During his journey in which we see him fight off threats from wild animals we see the sunset, and sunrise again.

The next morning we see him at a famine relief centre where he obtains a sack of wheat.

He carries the wheat back to the village again we see the sunset and sunrise.

Finally after two days he arrives back at his home in the village, his wife speaks the only words in this sketch...

ERANDAS WIFE
Did you get the eggs?

Eranda doesn't even put the sack down, without saying a word he turns and walks away as the sun begins to set.

Any feedback on this one would be good.

The other one on a similar subject was better, it's kinda a bit to simple.

OK Thanks Sooty

This is the best thing I've read of yours so far Summer. It's a nice set-up with a simple strong punchline, something sadly lacking in a lot of sketches these days.

However it'd be impossible to shoot.

I really really like it! I think it would be possible to shoot, just have a prolonged montage of this guy fighting his way through all sorts of bother to get to the place, then fighting all the way back home. In one continuous shot you see him emerge from the woods, tired beaten and exhausted. The wife doesn't even look up from where she's sat and says "did you get the eggs?"

Shooting is possible, and it could look quite fantastic! Great work, matey!!

The problem with shooting this is the location - a village in the Malawi Desert.

Then there's the fighting off killer animals bit. There's also the problem of casting - you'd have to have black cast member playing the part to avoid being accused of racism.

The sketch could be done with green screen etc but nobody's going to go to all that trouble for one sketch, even if it's a runner.

So again, it's a nice little idea but you couldn't shoot it without a complete rewrite, or it would work well as an animation. When you're writing tv stuff you always have to think about the practicalities.

Could be done for radio, or just as a VO with stock footage.

Hmm looking at this with some Peter Gabriel music and some old Comic Relief footage.

Could be a killer I resind earlier comments.
