Sad news about Mel Smith.
I've had my own pop at updating the lyrics to "I Believe", posted in the Critique thread if anyone fancies a look

I forgot the punchline completely since I've seen this sketch last time. Great stuff.
I watch Gerald the Gorilla on a near-daily basis and still makes me laugh.
Gold have been repeating this recently with sort of 'Best Of' episodes, which I think has included some footage from the first series. I'm a bit too young to remember it when it went out originally, but having watched it in recent years, I can only echo those that say it was ahead of its time and how some of the observations are just as relevant to life now as they were 30-odd years ago. Some of the interplay between Rowan Atkinson and Mel Smith is brilliant.
Was sad to hear about Mel Smith. Like I say, I was too young to remember NTNOCN at first hand but certainly grew up with the various Smith & Jones sketch series and their cross-table head-to-heads which were as much part of the late 1980s as the mullet.

It's a genius sketch.
Possibly my favourite sketch
