My uncle once appeared in an advert with Mel. He also attended his wedding.

Your Uncle's wedding, or Mel's? That is pretty cool.

There was also the Inspector in Wilt. A sad loss.

Let us not forget his fine, Hancock-esque, turn in the under-rated sitcom Colin's Sandwich.

It was Mel's wedding. He and my uncle shared a mutual friend, who managed to get him an invite.

I think he was also responsible for my uncle's involvement in one of Mel's adverts. In it, Mel can be seen travelling in a taxi driven and owned by my uncle (who was a London cab driver).

Some great work behind him.

RIP.

One of Filthy, Rich & Catflap's best scenes:

Popped up in the Young Ones episode 'Bambi' as well

RIP Mel

The memory Kinda lingers

It's very sad news and I was taken aback by it. Will have to have a good session of NTNON viewing on YouTube later.

Just heard, terribly sad news, Rest In Peace Mel.

I know a lot of people dislike it, but there is still a very special place in my heart for Bean: The Movie (which Mel directed).

R.I.P. Mr Smith. :(

Classic Film.

Funny, but painful to watch too.

It's quite apt in a way sadly but I like the Smith and Jones sketch where Mel is a mourner at a funeral and his false teeth fall in the hole in the ground during the burial service, so he goes down to retrieve them.

With hilarious consequences.

The predictable lighthouse keepers was another cracker.

Yes, sketches that manage to be class and classic.
