Sitcom tweaks

Trying to work out what the writer means when he says he was trying to show the Goods' lifestyle as unsubstantive (as he felt this was an important part of the conflict?) and I'm wondering could it be done in any other way? Maybe an unemployed person becoming self-sufficient?

I'm also wondering about Dad's Army maybe someone from a secret army in the ranks?

What little tweaks would like to give popular sitcoms?

NGO I'd make Lee have a real reason to stay in, Agoraphobia or something like that. It would transform the show and give it a proper lead character with a real character to him. As it is, he has no defining character, the title doesn't make sense (because he does go out) and it just doesn't work as a sitcom, because it isn't really one, even judged against American sitcoms, which it most resembles.

Mind you that's a major tweak, and you'd have to replace Mack because I don't think he could act it.

Would be a bit of a copy of Game On, too!

I am watching the re-runs (again) of Goodnight Sweetheart and that could have been tweaked in so many places.
Gary was too straight and never (hardly) meddled with history. Ron should have been his constant nemesis and meddled wherever he could.

I mean, who wouldn't, given the chance, print a few thousand pounds of notes and place it an high interest bank account in the 40s to collect today.
I realise that sitcoms have to end with the status quo intact at the end of each episode but I think the writers were too constrained by this rule.

Um. Not going out. Not dating.
