New Look BBC3?

Saw the Lily Allen show last night, which I assume is a show to herald the relaunch of BBC3... On the basis of what seems to pass for the humour element of the show I suggest we all start writing material involving clips of animals shagging... give the public what it wants.

A terrible show. She's a good singer but why this means she can be given a big show on the BBC is beyond me. Looks to me like it'll go the same way as Johnny Vaughn and Davina McCall's shows. Another great investment from the beeb.

I've nothing against Lily Allen and actually thought she did a decent job. The problem is with the content, as usual. What thought, beyond, "Lily Allen to host chat show" went into it. Really tired ideas which don't deliver.

I know this may seem to stray from this being on the writers' forum, but it's depressing that this is where the money goes. If the BBC3 really wanted to show us something new, it could invest in an comedy-entertainment show with a original team of writers, a new face presenter with some comedic performing talent. Anything but this...

God, I'm getting bitter in my old age.

Not quite related but sort of as it made me think of age-related television; couldn't we use those mosquito things to stop kids watching stuff?

Surely by having that high-pitched whining 'sewn' into the recordings it would be okay to broadcast the more violent and sexual stuff before the watershed. Not that I'm into hardcore porn or anything...

Dan

I'd just like to see more comedy/entertainment aimed at those of us in our 30's +, who are too old to see the genius of 'Grownups' and too young to think there's been nothing funny since Del Boy fell through the bar.

And I think writers who would serve that audience are being passed over...

I didn't see it as I was out, but I'm going to assume it was shite: apparently, over a third of the audience WALKED OUT during the recording. The audience having been selected from her MySpace friends list and invited especially. Poor Lily. :(

I'd happily console her. In fact, Cuba Gooding Jr was more-or-less all over her. Speaking as a dirty old man myself, that sort of behaviour ruins our good name.

But getting it back to a writing perspective, does anyone think the re-launch is going to bear fruition for any seriously interesting new comedy shows over the next couple of years?

Have you seen the new BBC Three website?... so much moving I felt sea sick looking at it (and I don't get sea sick). Plus its got all that 'user generated content' stuff we've been moaning about in another thread.

Christ. The whole BBC website redevelopment is horrific.

How very dare you (Oh, how I love catchphrases.)

Wouldn't let me view the flash version despite having Flash and the latest player plug-in installed. Nothing like a bit of compliance.

I've never thought much of the BBCs websites.

I know I'm supposedly trying to get the radio sketch show together (Somebody help me!) but why doesn't someone (No - definitely not me) co-ordinate something and maybe just talk to them. Get them to look at this site. There really is some good material here that needs o see the light of day

I miss the orange blobs.
