Downloading Killed the Musical Charts

Haven't ever tried the song lyrics thing before, but inspired by Charley's comp and the news that they want to ban illegal downloaders I came up with this...

Music: Video Killed the Radio Star...

Downloading Killed the Musical Charts

I had you on my Walkman back in eighty two
I taped you off a friend, that's what we use to do
Now I've an iPod, need to purchase you anew

Oh-a oh

So now I've piggy-backed my neighbours I.S.P.
Taken advantage of the new technology
Downloading MP3's and videos for free

Oh-a oh
I use file sharing
Oh-a oh
I'm just not caring

Downloading killed the musical charts

Broadband came the speeds increased

Oh-a-a-a oh

But now I'm being sued by all the studios
For breach of copyright and goodness only knows
They banned me from the net and man that really blows

Oh-a oh
Want just one last song
Oh-a oh
Download one last one

I can't download no more for free.

Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

Laughing out loud This is one of the funniest and best songs I've read on this website to date. Well written! I actually sang the whole song aloud in the voices from the original song when I was reading it, and so I noticed one thing: The main chorus of "Downloading killed the musical charts" is a little lengthy and a mouthful to fit in the timespan the original song alloted.
Just a thought, but like I said, favorite song so far.

Yes, the words are quite good, but unfortunately it doesn't fit the rhythm of the original, so wouldn't sound right if sung.

They fit perfect mate.

I love the original song and this funny version fits the original music perfectly.

If you're having problems making it fit, maybe you need to stress the 'down' in 'downloading', not the 'load' as some people would in ordinary speech.

Its very topical and funny.

One thing I'd suggest...

Oh-a oh
I use file sharing
Oh-a oh
I'm just not caring

Flip that round so it says:

Oh-a oh
I'm just not caring
Oh-a oh
I use file sharing

Because you always want the funnier/more clever/more important line to come second. The way you had it, yes it fits and sounds fine, but its kind of like you picked caring because it rhymes with sharing. If you flip it, you pass by the caring because it fits and sounds fine, but then you come to sharing and its great. Anyway, I'm nit-picking...

I loved it.

I haven't heard that song for a while but I believe that the words fit pretty much exactly! I thought it was pretty good, though the subject matter was a little dry. I think if it were performed you'd have to curtail the ending because it goes on a bit, but that's just the song.

Very Good. Laughing out loud

Thanks every one for the comments... :D

You don't hang around on here do you....

Excellent song. All you BSGer's are making me feel impotent. If you start writing original comedy songs i'm going to the shed with vodka, a shotgun and a hatred for society.

Nice take on a fav song of mine.

This would fit nicely into somthing like the Now Show where they do a topical song.

Jolly good

I think we have a winner...

Very good, Sir.
I agree with Charisma about the reversal of the lines but apart from that excellent. :D

Praise indeed from the master of the comedy song...

Wave how's it going your end? Any news yet?

It does work well - and the sentiment irks me.

I've not got to the IPOD downloading stage but I resent the fact that stuff I love I've had to get on vinyl, cassette and CD and had to pay again and again for the same thing.

No - I know Aaron - nobody forced me but classic stuff like Man Who Sold the World by Bowie, Ocean Rain by Echo & the Bunnymen and Low Life by New Order have to be accessible at all times whatever equipment is handy.

And yes - it does scan and fit the original tune.
