Hayfever!

Hi everyone, I have never had hayfever before but this summer have got it chronically! I am always coughing and blowing my nose. Does anyone have any secret tips as to how to over come this, I have tried lemsip, hayfever tablets and a nasal spray, any special home remedies?

No advice, I'm afraid, but possibly useful info - ITV regional news do a pollen report, and I noticed that yesterday's said that in the South it would be high today, moderate Tues-Wed, and then high again on Thursday.

I don't get hayfever, but suffer from sinusitis, which gets worse when the pollen count is high.

Thanks George. The hayfever is blocking my sinuses also which in turn is giving me headaches so I feel your pain, I really want to try to shift this before my open mic spot tomorrow, but I don't see it happening, good news the pollen count will be lower though. :)

Boots bog standard value hay fever stuff has knocked the symptons I had this year on the head.

Amazing they're only about 50p.

Like colds and flus etc the more obsessive you get about treatments and expensive named brand stuff, then I truly believe the worse it gets.

And paraceatamol is always a useful backup for drying yourself.

Thanks Sooty, I will head to boots and stock up now!

There's no difference between the big brand names and the supermarket own brand ones. They contain the same active chemicals. There may be some sort of placebo effect when you buy the all singing, all dancing medications, but as SootyJ has found the cheaper option works just as well.

Some summers I get a little bit of hayfever, but nothing long lasting and hasn't happened in several years now.

For what it's worth, I heard this advice this very day.

You get some honey from a LOCAL farm shop or such where the honey has definitely come from local beehives.

You take a spoon-full a day and because the pollen that went into making it is the same stuff you are breathing it acts like an inoculation.

It's a thought eh.

I used to suffer quite badly from it then it just went away. Almost like the receptors in my nose died.

Sounds kind of sensible. Plus you get to eat honey.

I was going to add that. Without it the whites of my eyes blew up to the size of apples with just the retinas their normal colour - or is it irises? Anyway I take a spoonful every day!

I've heard this story before and it sounds nice, but I don't believe you can immunise against allergies.

You can immunise against the pollen. Basically what it seems to do is solidify the mucous from various orifices so they don't run and irritate.

Solidifying somebody's mucus sounds a bit sinister.
