The rumour is that John Hurt will play a future incarnation with his story told in flashback in the next series.
I doubt John Hurt would sign up to be a long term Doctor. I think he's a bit above it. If I was proved wrong, though, I would be delighted.
There are a lot of rumours around, including Hurt is actually Omega an anniversary show staple.
