HIGNFY - Series 45 Page 4

Barely satirical though.

No surprise there then.

Rather disappointed with the current series.
Alexander Armstrong has been, by far, the best presenter. Don't know where they are getting their guests from. Josie Long wasn't funny, at all. Who is she?

Josie Long wasn't funny, at all. Who is she?

She is someone who seems to find herself on all sorts of TV and radio panel shows, but is never actually funny. A bit like Andi Osho and Andy Parsons.

I do genuinely wonder sometimes how these people keep getting booked. There must be loads of new comedians who are much funnier. Why not give them a chance?

I actually think in most cases they just want some one to fill the seat. Because they want Ian, Paul and the host to be the focus point of the show.

How do they cope with 45 series?

Has to be one of the best gigs on TV. Not many episodes to do. And you're given the material on a plate.

If I compare this to Mock The Week, MTW is way better.

Surely, they can have guests who can speak intelligently about the news etc, without trying to be funny. Josie Long TRIED to be funny, and failed.

Josie Long is a dim bint.

Well she did make me laugh once. But anyone can make clumsily dropping caviar funny I guess...

Bored to death with this complacent garbage, long past its sell by date.

Credit to Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Not someone I'd take out for a pint (more likely to take him outside and shoot him) but unlike many politicians who go onto HIGNFY he took his ribbing with good humour and gave a bit back.

Josie Long was awful. She might be a decent stand-up with a rehearsed routine, but on something like HIGNFY you need to be able to think on your feet and wing it.

I bet Miranda would do it better :)

That last episode appeared like a little bit of a stitch-up, isolating Josie Long amongst that row of Public School boys, whereas the comedians' spot is nearly always next to Paul (who is incredibly generous with helping out other comics on this show, and was noticeably quieter in this recent one as well).

Together, Zander, Hislop and Rees-Mogg (along with the surprise "Cheering Right Wing Woman in the Audience") made this a rather ugly show and a hostile environment for Josie, who may be a card-carrying leftie, but who is also one of our most interesting young comics.

Possibly an interesting glimpse into the "office politics" of HIGNFY, but not an especially enjoyable episode.

I disagree. If anything HIGNFY seems, like so much of the BBC's output, to have an appalling left wing bias. THe formula these days seems to be to invite some Tory toff onto the show as a guest and then mercilessly take the mickey out of him for not being working class and out of touch with lowbrow culture.

And why is virtually every "alternative" comedian left-wing? It would be far more interesting if they had a right wing comedian and a left wing politician rather than the other way round.
