The arab world still gets het up about the crusades - George Dubya declaring a crusade on terror did not help. But there were jihadis before there were crusaders, the Christians had a bit of catching up there, in order to twist the Bible to authorise what was sanctioned in the Koran.
In any case the first crusade was really just a ploy by the Pope to get all the violent bastards onto a ship out of Europe.
Supposed medieval moslem tolerance of subject Christians and Jews was mostly down to the fact that the Koran did not allow the taxation of fellow believers, so it made no financial sense to kill or convert the infidel population who were financing the arab garrisons.
History needs to be handled with care.
