best Companion Ever
In regard to the episode it was very messy, didn't feel like the end of the series just felt like a 2 parter. Hopefullythat's the last we'll see of River Song.

Rose was a great companion with the ultimate David Tennant.
Quote: David Smith @ May 20 2013, 10:14 PM BSTRose was a great companion with the ultimate David Tennant.
David Tennant was the ultimate David Tennant.
(Usage note: ultimate is the ultimate in lame words, and should be used sparingly?)
I didn't think it particular mattered if River Song was dead, but doesn't that mean the chronology is correct? Big mistake.
Was it well-known that John Hurt is to be the new Doctor?
Quote: Chappers @ May 21 2013, 10:03 PM BSTWas it well-known that John Hurt is to be the new Doctor?
He's going to be an old Doctor. In between McGann and Eccleston. I doubt an actor of his standing would sign up to be a long term Doctor. Imagine if he did though. No more gurning.
Hurt can say more with a blink of his eyes than Smith can with his entire facial repertoire.
I can't wait for Hurt.
It would be lovely to have a completely different kind of Doctor next.

Saucy.
Well you saw the first one last week in the last episode. He seemed ancient to me at the time but maybe he was a similar age to Hurt.
William Hartnell was only 55 when it started.
Hurt is 63.
Quote: Lazzard @ May 20 2013, 6:55 PM BSTHuge question, that.
Personally I would not have a show-runner that provides an arc over disparate episodes.
In fact I would not have disparate episodes.
I would revert to the 'serial' format and allow a writer to create a self-contained story over several episodes - allow him to bring his own touches and 'foibles' to the world of that story - but not re-invent he wheel.
Have a producer in charge of 'house-style' - ideally not a writer , but a great producer.No-one felt the need to re-shape Morse's world - just lots of great writers and producers keeping a consistent tone
Yeah, the show needs to be 'run' by a proper producer and not a writer - that is definitely the first thing. It's isn't as if Moffat doesn't have good ideas - even I can see that - The Weeping Angels, the Vashta Nerada, Headless Monks are all good, solid and exciting concepts - but his storytelling abilities are non existent.
As for story arcs, most people hate them but TV bods are addicted - even The Office is built around it (The second-series merger with Swindon is mentioned in the first episode of the first series).

That is the episode you should write and submit.

What, boxing handkerchiefs?
Quote: Ben @ May 20 2013, 9:10 PM BSTShe's the ultimate something.
Or, at least, she was.
Great actress, beautiful woman - in whatever order you want. She even looks good dressed as Clare Balding:

Hurt is more than 63, he is a few months older than me, according to IMDB.

Why do you need IMDB to tell your age?
