Yes that is true. It was jst the notion she 'was born to save the doctor' that is puzzling I guess. And she would have died more that twice and would have to grow up in different timelines to save the doctor and then what happens to her. Just a bit lose.. seems so to me anyway.
Doctor Who... Page 988
I think I might be confused.
I've gone through the series thinking that the reason the Doctor's name was such a big secret was because he'd recently gone through history erasing himself from everybody's data banks.

Thanks for making me feel sane Marc.
The worst moment was when the Ian Hartnell Doctor took the Tardis for the first time.
Someone had gone to the bother of working out what an unconcealed TARDIS would like, the sets looked the original 1960s ones only ever so slightly pretified so they didn't wobble, the old footage and new footage was seemlessly integrated.
It showed up how much bilge and how lacking in magic the rest of the episode was.
Quote: Matthew Stott @ May 20 2013, 9:02 AM BSTFinally, my chance to impress you is at hand.
What kind of writer turns down the opportunity to impress?
The swirly timeline thing was just rubbish. We were constantly told how dangerous it was and yet both Clara and The Doctor stepped in and out of it with no harm whatsoever coming to them. Reminded me of that previous Moffat episode that promised us The Doctor's Greatest Victory (or somesuch) and it turned out to be an okay victory at best. Moffat promises the moon on a stick but never delivers.
Quote: Lazzard @ May 20 2013, 10:02 AM BSTThe Doctor's real name will be "Moffatt".
It's all about him anyway.
Moffat has cryptomnesia. Almost everything he writes closely resembles something else. The Name thing is reminiscent of the Inspector Morse teaser which ran for years.
Of course, Hurt could be the 12th Doctor and they have a young Hurt looking actor lined up to take over after next year.

It's who you're trying to impress that counts, I don't have any inclination to try and make you think more of me. I'm comfortable with our relationship.

No, his name has always been secret.

You can't impress me. I meant other people who read this thread. You have a go at explaining away all the holes in the plot when other people voice them. Well those people also read my criticisms.

If you're comfortable with someone constantly ridiculing you then you have impressed me. I wouldn't be. I wouldn't take the rubbish I fling at you from you. Fortunately you don't seem to be able to give it.
Stott: Um, if you say so.

I'm comfortable because it doesn't matter. I don't know you; to get truly upset about something that has no actual effect on my life would be a little absurd and insecure of me. I have enough real things to be absurd and insecure about.
Now back to Who; so we're all agreed this was the best episode yet?
Mmm.
I think I'm just generally bored with the current obsession with "origin' stories.
It seems who ever takes over a franchise, here or in Hollywood, wants to trump everyone else who's ever written before by 'solving' the enigma that is Batman/Sherlock/Superman/The Doctor et etc.
It's a peculiar sort of vanity.
I want characters to grow and stories to move forward - not spend series after series trying to 'find' themselves.
Which, I reckon, is what the writers are trying to do for themselves.
It's all a bit "me, me, me".
Which is very current and the disease of our times, so I guess it's to be expected.
Origin stories are popular because they follow the tried-and-tested heroic journey formula. Filmmakers rarely plan out a three-movie arc for their characters (it seems) so sequels inevitably run out of narrative steam, requiring a new reboot to keep viewers interested.
imho
There's a Paddingtom movie coming I believe. Perhaps they'll show how it was him that made it into 'Darkest' Peru.
