Well that's just silly The biggest secret ever in the series.... allegedly.
Doctor Who... Page 987
I'm pretty sure that if they do tell us his name, it will be something stupid like 'The' Doctor.
The Doctors real name will be "Moffatt".
It's all about him anyway.

It's Who filtered through his vision, every bit as much as it was filtered through RTD when he was in charge, that's just part of the job. He's just trying to make the best Who he can, and of course many will not like his choices, or think he's crap, but I don't think it's just one big ego trip.

I remember reading some Dr Who paperback as a child and it mentioned that his name was, in fact, Doc-Tor. It was a Gallifreyan name which happened to be similar to the English word.

Well pointed out. Now we can all go home and fight some slimy space monsters. Not that I was ever really desperate to know his real name.
Knowing Moffatt the Doctors real name will be deliberately lame, like Nigel or Colin, so Clara or whoever can tease him about it. Moffat's background is light entertainment and he's never really escaped it.
You can stop wondering about what his 'real' name is, it's not going to be mentioned, it's not building up to telling you.
It's a name so otherworldly and alien you could never conceive of it. Something like Benedict Cumberbatch.

What was the episode called. I think I missed it?

It was a tease. He even says at the end that Dr Hurt did what he did but 'Not in the name of the Doctor'. That's what the title was really about, not revealling his real name, but living up to the name he gave himself.
Well teasing is all very well if there is some delivery. Otherwise there is another Name for it. Did yu see what I did there.

We got told quite a lot of stuff, and tossed a new question or two. The real mystery was never his name. If we'd been told it...well...it wouldn't have quite the same impact as the end we got. Sleight of hand, offer something, then give them the real trick.
Well I loved John Hurt turning up. Just a bit bored of the THE BIGGEST SECRET IN THE UNIVERSE EVER and THE ONE LACE I MUST NEVER GO TO stuff, which never actually means anything and a bit of Deus Ex etc to finish off, with still more things untied. The Impossible girl for example... how did she come about??

By stepping into the 'scar' in the TARDIS. She really was just an ordinary girl, this modern version travelling with the Doctor. The other ones we saw were versions of her after she stepped into the 'scar' in this epsidoe and was scattered around the Doctor's timeline. So basically we see the results first, then the cause. How her just being there stopped the Great Intelligance I don't know, that was pretty bungled really as we weren't shown.
