The Smiths - Pilot

I really do hope that this is given a full series as I loved Everybody Loves Raymond. Plus , Lee Mack and Catherine Tate are both great comic actors.

It's being filmed on Saturday 25th May.

Does anybody know whether this will get shown on the TV?

I wish they were planning to show the pilot on TV.

Oh sorry, I didn't see that you'd asked that. It sounds like it won't be.

The pilot is unlikely to be broadcast on television, with BBC executives deciding whether to order a series after viewing the episode.

By the way...I wonder what they choose as theme tune...I mean, when the show is called The Smiths.

Hmmm...the original had such a strong dynamic between the characters and the actors playing them, this would have to go some to equal it.

BBC never air these pilots.

Not quite true. Some turn up as 'episode 1', and others are explicitly broadcast as pilots, but it is very rare.

Maybe it'll end up as a DVD extra.

Yes, if the pilot is successful it will become episode 1 with a few tweaks.

What I meant was the Beeb don't screen these pilots on their own, not as part of a series.

If a full series is made and if they release it on DVD.

Well, stating the obvious there, but yeah.

It would be interesting to see how Mack will play Ray, because his own persona seems pretty different to the original shows.

I suspect it'll be rather more inspired by the situation in ELR than being quite so direct a remake, in a similar manner to the US reinterpretation of The Office.

Do you know if original co-creator/Showrunner Phil Rosenthal is involved? I know he was very hands on when they made a Russian version. (There's even a documentary following him as he attempts to do so - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1356763/ )

Morrissey might sue.
