But because it was used to house radio transmitters considered important for defence purposes the tower was saved.

Franklyn D Roosevelt would have fully recovered from Polio if he had not received a misdiagnosis from a Dr. As he was considered to old to have got Polio at the time the Dr advocated vigorous exercise, this made the condition worsen and was the last thing needed. If he had rested he would have recovered without spinal injury. Had he lived longer and been more in control of his health the post war settlement may have been a very different beast.
