Writing Software Page 3

I've recently started using Scrivener as well and I love it. It's the first piece of software I have found that seems to fit with my chaotic, inside out way of thinking and writing. Definitely worth £30 or so, even if, like me you're not making much money out of writing.

I've found the manual very good as well, so haven't felt the need to read the book as yet.

Currently using Supernotecard

It was recommended by Graham Linehan on his guide to sitcom writing/The IT Crowd - version 4.0

Works for me and it's free :)

I've used that , it's pretty good.

I just downloaded 4 sample sitcom scripts from the BBC writers room thingy!
All 4 have a slightly different format?

I thought that the BBC, at least for scripts that have gone to production were required to be a "certain" format?? (FD8?).

*I like the Mirands one it looks nice and reads well. Does anyone know what software this was created on?

I think you'll find they're fairly relaxed.

All decent software will re-create any format you want.
It looks like the BBC Sitcom on FD8 - but if you want to get it spot on, all it takes is a ruler and a bit of fiddling with the values to set up your own template.
I've tinkered with my screenplay template because I like a smidgen more space between scenes and parenthicals in italics - it's all pretty simple.

Writers Room are fine with 'anything that looks like a script, as long as it isn't on toilet paper'. I think that's a direct quote from Paul Wossisname there. That Miranda script could be done on FD, MMS, any word processor. Whatever you can lay your hands on, really.

In terms of file format, I'd go with PDF, though doc/docx would probably be fine.

FD8 it is then!
Not so expensive when you know where to look Smarmy

You do know that knock-off copies of FD8 randomly put the words "ALL PRODUCERS ARE CUNTS" somewhere in your script?

Just saying.

Matt Carless, who produced Scriptsmart (a primitive MS word template compared to my Scriptwriters Toolkit) used to have a set or formatting examples on the BBC Writers Room website, but he left the BBC or transferred elsewhere in the BBC and Scriptsmart was orphaned.

Eventually in a revamp of that BBC website, both Scriptsmart and the sample formats vanished without apology.

THATS the name of my sitcom!!
....and it's about a man with Tourette's.... so no problems with that one!
....and that would be a great incentive for me to proof read my completed works properly!
(It's not exactly "knock-off" anyway - what kind of a boy do you take me for?)

You'll be laughing on the other side of your face when next years Oscar winner for 'Best Original Screenplay' ends his speech with - "...and most of all I've got to thank BillWill and his free copy of the Script Writers Toolkit.."
