There was a ray of light in 1945 with the New Jerusalem, unfortunately it could not be achieved on many levels, reality conspired against ideals, the country being broke after the war, dismantling a huge Empire, the winter of 1948 etc etc. I don't know if basic human rights enshrined self centerdness. Harold Wilson's decimation of old and well established communities and imprisonment of said communities in dehumanising Tower Blocks certainly didn't help society cohesion. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
