Yet some looney tune can make an entire thread about banana documentaries

Laughing out loud

No offence to you Teddy...but said thread did raise my eyebrows.

Isn't the mind a strange thing?

Cooking my frankfurters and chips tonight and, out of nowhere and for no reason, into my head pops . . .

There was a young girl from Devizes,
Who had breasts of two different sizes,
One was so small it was nothing at all,
And the other was big and won prizes.

Huh?

It may come as a shock to you...but my real name is not Gordon Bennett!

And my real name is actually: Bill Wount

Whistling nnocently Angelic

Do people actually cook frankfurters and chips for a meal?

That's a standard Tuesday night tea in Dusseldorf and they love scones on a Wednesday afternoon.

If I'd buy two box sets would you say "George & Mildred" and "Not Going Out 1-5" are good choices (I like the idea of watching one "new" show and a classic one)?

Depends if you think you would enjoy them.

I'm always insecure when I'm about to order a show I haven't seen yet. I need some extra motivation in such a case.

I recently purchased the Armstrong and Miller boxset, a hit and miss comedy that has some sublime moments. I like it a lot but can not watch more than one a time as it begins to annoy after a while, only true classics are capable of holding your attention back to back, eg, Hancock, Steptoe, Up Pompeii, Porridge etc. I have been watching Arthur Haynes show from the sixties which is great as long as you fast forward the musical interludes which is normally some wailing woman in a cocktail dress.

Whenever they have a singer guest on the Two Ronnies I always forget and sit there waiting and waiting for something funny to happen.

It seems so bizarre now that they had totally straight musical performances on in between all the sketches.

I seem to run out of "true classics". I already have Steptoe, Hancock, Porridge and lots of other obvious choices. It gets harder and harder...

There is a lot of mediocre, less classic stuff being released, Yus My Dear, The Squirrels etc. The true classics are soon dealt with unfortunately. Have you tried, Yes Minister, Rising Damp, Sykes. Or more second division comedies I like, Bless This House, The Detectives, All Gas and Gaitors, Oh Brother. Any Les Dawson is a good bet, I can recommend 'Says Les' and Dawson's Weekly written by Galton and Simpson. You can also get Galton and Simpson's playhouse which is superb.

I already have Yes Minister/PM and Rising Damp...and I'm waiting until the Bless This Hose box set gets cheaper. I've never heard of the others you mentioned (except maybe for the Galton & Simpson thing).
