What's the point? Page 3

There are a couple of people around who, if they inadvertently spoke well of anything I'd written, would feel duty-bound to commit hari-kiri. :D

Well having never seen a piece of your work I can't comment :(

This place isn't cliquey in my opinion. People make friends on here and perhaps that does sway them at times, but I try not to get involved in that sort of thing.

Everyone started here once, lil Jimmy. You just need to keep on writing and posting. Even, now I still get the odd sketch which gets no comments whatsoever and it does anger me, but that's just plain old arrogance. Just best to move on.

I swear anothe BSG user had it as their avatar back in the day

I've got it as an emoticon for "Work" on MSN.

Hi Little Jimmy Junior.

Sorry to hear that you feel some of us can be cliques.
To be honest I think it is very difficult to be a newbie sometimes. We have all been there. I had some run-ins with peeps when I first started. I felt like I had boarded a ship without a proper pass. However part of the problem was me. I am a gobby & opinionated Bitch. Also part of the problem was that people had already formed relationships so to speak.

I do have favourite writers on here. I am not going to name them. I will always read their stuff if I see it. I also always read a first posters few sketches. I don't always comment. Sometimes because what I wanted to say has already been said. Sometimes because I have nothing to say. Sometimes by time I pop on here they have disappeared down the old line of threads.

You have made me feel quite sad. I think it is imperative that newbies feel 100% welcomed to this forum. I think maybe a re-think l is required.
Maybe for all of us that do put our work on, we should in return critique more others. The time has come for more honest & sensitive advice & more effort to read more critiques.

I forget what it is like to be the newbie sometimes.
Anyhoo, there is a downside to posting your own work. It can get mullered. Rightly so. If it is dreadful we need to know that. It can be disheartening so you need a thick skin. That comes with time. No one will come on here at first & not be affected by that.

Sometimes a sketch doesn’t have to be funny, it can be smiley & still be classed as comedy.

I hope anyway that you continue to post. Trust me, after a while your skin will grow thicker & you will make some friends here & have your fav. writers.
I joined when there was only one other woman I think. That was Zooo & I assumed she was a man. Her pic had a geezer with a hairy face. I assumed it was her/him (F**k I am confusing myself here).
I came on here with my terrible language, filthy mind & my awful grammar.
The grammar has improved a bit but the language has stayed. My sense of humour remains the same yet my ability to write has vastly improved. I am not saying I am the funniest woman that walked the planet. Merely that I know I have got better than I was. Even if that means I have gone from Shite to Not Bad!!!!
If it were not for the BSG I would still just be storing my stuff on the computer for only me to see.
Stay & play with us. You really will appreciate it in the end. I promise.

And Jimmy - I'll agree with several people here in that if the Script is too long I just won't bother reading it. Also if there are responses of over 100 words then I really can't be arsed to read it.

Just post sketches or a scene or two. None of us - if we think we are creative ourselves - want to waste time reading loads of stuff that might be rubbish.

I only read the first page of this thread.

Bloody hell Charley - that's as long post. I think you should have a lie down.

If you bothered to read my post Dave, you just f**ked all over the point you made. Ha fooking Ha!
Loves yer really.

Agree with Charley's points but opinionated and gobby? Never, Madam! Laughing out loud

Charley put it in much softer tones. That is, contribute, get known, be seen, form friendships. To have only posted a dozen posts in five months, most of them associated with your own threads, when you're competing with hundreds of very active regulars is not the best way to get the most out of this place.
:)
Yes, it's disheartening but we've all been there. And if you're meant to write, you WILL write, despite the disappointments.
:D
