Doctor Who... Page 959

Its not high art its hookam that at its base is aimed at kids, this at least had some decent aliens, less arsing about on motorbikes and bit of tension, it was OK, not great but better than the previous two. I did hope they might push the boat out a bit more in the fiftieth year, but its a nice way to spend fifty minutes. And I think Clara is a huge improvement on the Amy character.

It's not a detail, Chip it's the impetus of the whole story and it is as Lazzard suggested 'random'. That's not how you write.

The impetus is that the thing was picked up not how it was awoken, it was crass they way they did it but narratively it isn't important, they could just have cut to to the creature smashing out - no difference, If the awakening is the impetus it has to be paid off in the the denouement/ending... which it wasn't. Again not great but too complex a thing to go into here without reconstructing the whole ep narratively.. and it they can't be arse sometimes I certainly can't be arse either for no tin! :)

I haven't done one.

Well hurry up.

Godot could you put your Matt Smith up? I'd be interested to see it.

Sure Raymond, but you'll have to wait till tomorrow as I'm at my girlfriend's and don't have it.

It's always hell when you forget your Cialis.

Enjoyed the ep.

Why did the writers have The Doctor lose the sonic screwdriver, then rediscover it? The plot seemed unaffected by these events.

At least the sonic was for once used for something remotely related to its core capability, as an improvised sonar. But yes the mislaid sonic was a plot element that seemed completely redundant, much like David Warner.

Good luck by the way to anyone attempting to use a cattle prod on a polar bear. Most wildlife experts carry a rifle in the Arctic, so I am not sure what the Soviet navy is doing being so humane/suicidal.

It wasn't really mislaid was it? I thought the Russians took it away from him, because it might be a weapon.

I thought it was an ok episode, but was expecting something brilliant with the build up it seemed to be getting from people. Definitely the best of this half-season so far.

I seem to be getting less interested in Doctor Who each year though. I'm not sure if it's just my tastes changing, or if RTD really was better at it than the Moff. I know there was some rubbish, but there was always some brilliant stuff too, particularly series 3 which contained the run of Human Nature, The Family of Blood and Blink, and series 4 which contained the run of Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead, Midnight and Turn Left (and yes I know the Moff wrote some of those). I would happily watch any of these again, but can't think of many from the Moff's run that I've absolutely loved. There's been a few I've liked a lot, but none that have really wowed me.

Then again, when the Moff took over I turned 30, so maybe it's just an age thing and I'm now just a boring old fart. Errr
