Mobile phone charges Page 3

Don't you find that you have to pay a fixed sum per month to use the Internet in any case.

I have PAYG with O2 for the phone use, but a £6 per month 'bolt-on' for data and If I forget to top that up the so-and-sos charge £1 for the tiniest part of any day midnight-to-midnight which could amount to £31 in a month....
Angry Angry Angry

I'm wondering if a contract would serve me better.

zooo does, but that's because she has a Blackberry. She pays no charge to the network.

Sounds like you've just fallen prey to the curse that is O2. They've always been expensive.

I'm with 3 I've got a nice phone and mifi transmitter.

The 2 cost me about £45 total. Sounds a lot but enough minutes not to need a landline, 3g is fast enough I'm thinking of dumping the cable (it seems to be faster and more reliable).

I don't understand how you people can live normal lives without ever ringing people. Although I suspect zooo and Aaron still live with their parents and get them to do all the 'being adults' stuff.

If I have to ring someone I do occasionally take the plunge. But most people can easily be emailed instead! It is the 21st century, grandad.

I'd rather ring and get an instant answer in most cases. It's called getting things done.

Websites give instant answers, and are far more reliable than people on the ends of phones.

If I am forced to make a call, I use a landline. Easy.

What if you need to book your car in at the garage?

Oh wait... It's purely a mobile thing...

I'd use a landline. Or, you know, drive there.

Apropos my earlier post re Carphone Warehouse phone + tablet, I've stumbled across this . .

I think the biggest phonebill I ever had was £75ish quid. I can't remember why it was so high, but I know people who used to average that every month. Not sure if that happens these days with the crazy amounts of minutes and texts you can get for £30.

When we first got dial-up we ran up a £200+ bill! All that money to watch it constantly disconnect and reconnect and disconnect again.

(The irony here is that my broadband connection dropped as I was posting this message and I'm not even joking)

Well amazed that you're all on 'burners' (Lee will tell you) I thought everyone was on contract these days.

Mine is £36 a month for unlimited calls and texts, 1gb of data and a 'free' phone (iPhone 4s). Got it middle of last year.

If you go over your minutes you can generate insane bills. £75 sounds like about two days of unallotted usage.

Same as me. Got mine well over a year ago on O2... But bought from Tesco because it was cheaper than getting it from O2 directly!
