Short Video Sketch Page 2

Sidney seeing it was the first thing you have posted on here

Not so.
He got a fairly thorough kicking for some odd photo sketches he posted.

He seems to take it on the chin, though, and amidst the barracking there is a fair bit of sound advice.
I'm sure you do't need to be worried on his behalf.

Thanks Teddy and Lazzard.

I'm nothing more than an enthusiastic (very) amateur. I'd have to be very naive to think I could post something on a board such as this without my work getting criticised. It isn't, nor sadly will it ever be up to the standards of many of the fine comedians on here.

As I mentioned, the stuff I do gives me, and maybe one or two others, pleasure. I'd love to improve it, thus I do genuinely appreciate all the comments. Do I think some of them are over the top? Yes, but that's fine with me too. Some of the OTT comments were funnier, I'm presuming intentionally, than my video. Surely nobody can go through the day being that angry????

Genuinely thanks to all!

Sidney I admire your approach and the degree of maturity you have shown on this issue.
But for me the point is that this site is one a very few sites that I know of that offers critique from fellow writers.

Obviously new posters can get panned and in the panning they may learn a few things that will stand them in good stead.

But lets not kid ourselves what was done was for Sooty's benefit as he often attempts to elevate his own status by ripping newbies to shreds.

Some may learn whilst others may never post again but that's my point.
Unknown and new writers have it hard enough as it is so having someone waiting in the wings to rubbish a post without quantifying it.

I don't care if people don't like what goes up but the entire point of the section is to explain why their stuff is being pulled down.

It is not here to act as bait to attract new writers so that Sooty can bully them off their hobby, its pathetic and should be stopped by people making a stand not excuses!

Hooray!!

Teddy I think the last claimed was that I want to be your friend

And I still do

I love you man

Even though you head up a vicious clique whose sole aim seems to be to destroy a poor newbie like myself

Sidney, I like the idea of using Lego figures - Hawking is very funny. I think the basic problem is the script, as others have said earlier. It should have a definite narrative, and make some sort of sense - why does he want to meet Blur, and why this hatred? If the plot has some sort of logic, then everything else should flow from there. And as the old Britpop joke goes, Q:"Who's best, Blur or Oasis?" A:"Pulp."

And to be blunt Blur v Oasis? Hello the 90s called they want their joke back

A "hello the ,,,,, called and wants its joke back?"

Sid Cesar's ghost is suing your unoriginal, plagarist ass.

I have to say I agree with what a lot of what Terry is trying to say. To say you didn't like something, or even thought it was a bit rubbish is fine, but to question a person as to why they bothered to make something so bad is perhaps a wee bit strong?

There's constructive criticism and then there's 'riffing' on someone's (subjective) failures... Reminds me of George Costanza in The Apology episode of Seinfeld: "he was bee-boppin' and scattin' all over me..."

(But that's no slight on Sooty per se)

I laughed the moment this started and I will be saying "I am Lego Stephen Hawking, I'm a genius" to myself a lot from now on. Make more and enjoy doing it!

That said, I did not care for it.

Sorry Sidney.

Needs stronger jokes IMO. Try and spend a bit more time on the writing. Leave it a few days then come back to it. Never rush in with draft no 1!

Teddy attack the criticism not the person, or you are doing what you accusing the other person of doing. Status FFS.. In fact don't attack anything just deconstruct in terms of sense It is all written here. Someone writes, we read and discuss if we have a mind. In terms of the OP material... it was one joke expanded a tad too long for me. Hawkins prefers Oasis to Blur.. a tad out of date maybe, doesn't matter really, but the thing about throwaway gags is you don't pick them up and examine them too closely.

Hi

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to view the video and post comments.

There's a lot of great advice, for which I am genuinely grateful.

I'm going to be doing a few more on a similar theme as I enjoyed doing it, and it's received a decent reaction. Admittedly not here.

I'm going to try to take your comments on board, although I'd nearly finished a very childish follow up, which I'd started before posting the original. Perhaps it's for the best I don't post that here :)

Once again thanks to all.

Kindest regards

I'll offer the same advice I offer to all the animators and film makers on here who get critiqued for poor scripts.

Post the script first.

Then film it.

You can't make a steak and kidney pudding with a haddock.

(nb should add your technical skills seem pretty good).

I actually thought this was alright. At least, up until "I don't like Blur. They are dicks". I would have ended it there, and just left it as an incredibly strange few seconds. :$
