Short Video Sketch

Hi

I've made a pilot video of something that I may spend more time on if it's well received.

It's a little odd, but that aside I'd welcome any feedback - good and bad. I realise time is precious and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to view it and maybe comment.

Many Thanks

Why would you bother doing something entirely lacking originality?

It's just a mish mash of other peoples works.

It has all the value of Ian Duncan Smith's shrivelled soul.

Hi SootyJ

Reading between the lines I'm guessing you didn't like it?

Oh well, thank you very much for taking the time to watch and comment.

Best regards

I disliked it and the idea behind it.

Perhaps I should clarify my question why did you make it? You took someone else's work, added some pointless and unfunny lines.

Seriously why?

Once again many thanks for the (very prompt) response.

Why did I make it? Well I made it because it gave me pleasure and makes me laugh. As do your replies. Indeed as does this reply.

I apologise if it's been done before. I never really did a search for Lego Stephen Hawking meeting Blur and torturing them in his lego dungeon.

The very best of regards

What is it you're claiming has been stolen exactly?

The images of Stephen Hawkings, lego torture, Blur etc and the voice over.

if the voice was even slightly original or counterpointed the images it would be original.

So you're saying every element is nicked, including the dialogue? Can you link to the original?

I'm saying the dialogue may have some small degree of originality (I apologise perhaps if I mildly over exagerated the total lack of originality)

But basically it just reflects the action based on unoriginal images.

So to simplify the statement.

It is a poorly developed script attached to unoriginal images.

Is that clearer?

I didn't think the video was particularly funny but I appreciated the effort put into the editing. If you could possibly produce your own art designs, maybe making it more "yours". Not sure I completely agree with soots though. Most stuff like this uses stock images and sound bits/samples anyway.

Oh, I thought you were saying the dialogue had been borrowed from elsewhere along with the rest.

Personally I don't have a problem with someone stitching a story together using stock images they found on the net (provided it's their story), but it does tend to make for a rather cheap, uninvolving experience, as is the case here.

Well compare it to the superlative thing by Owyn and Co.

Again stock footage, original dialogue etc. But add in an original vo with a narrative and character.

Again nothing wrong with that. But if the dialogue does nothng but reflect others works without adding to it, then I shall scoff at it in critique.

Once again thank you to all who have commented (seriously).

I'd love to be able to produce my own images, animations and music etc, but I guess if I could I may be in another line of work.

This is a bit of fun for me. I do it to make me and hopefully a few other people laugh. That doesn't mean I don't want to make my work better, and thus I appreciate everyone's time spent viewing and commenting.

I have no objection to people dislike/hating my what I do. To each their own.

Obviously the images and music are not my own, but the script certainly is.

I'd be rather surprised if something similar had been written before, but the world's a big place I don't know.

Kindest regards

Take the one piece you are doing originally and make it your own.

By which I mean the script, if the script is the one truly original contribution you are bringing.

Then make it better, tell a story, write better jokes or put a better spin on the images.

Most of us here are script writer and when you fire your words off into the world. By and large you lose all control over what happens to them.

Like children or puppies.

So make them the best that you can.

I don't think the thing warrants the level of animosity aimed at it at all, it wasn't great but I seen worse.

Sidney seeing it was the first thing you have posted on here I do hope you are not discouraged by the negative attitude of one poster, who when asked to quantify their stance opts to back peddle!

Sooty have you have nothing better to do than rip into a newbie for putting stuff up?

At the end of the day you claim to be some big shot who sells their stuff daily to a host of hungry punters so why you take so much time away from such a lucrative avenue to haunt these boards with such negativity is beyond me?
