They really were the most hilarious looking aliens in DW ever (if I'm wrong please, please post pics). I hope they don't get watered down in the redesign too much like the Silurians did.

Oh God I hope they are not the main villains. Also a bit disappointing that Christopher Eccleston won't be in it, I was hoping for at least all the Doctors of the modern era. I have a forlorn hope that John Hurt will be the Master, but I doubt it. The more that becomes apparent in the casting, Joanna Page? The less optimistic I am that this will be any cop at all, also at the rumoured one hour it sounds little more than a slightly extended episode.

Look at the original Zygon costume designed by John Friedlander (who designed Davros) and James Acheson. It's a masterpiece of strangeness. Note the unthreatening turtle like mouth and bloated cuttlefish-like shell. It looks menacing and fragile at the same time, but undeniably alien.
Now look at the modern take - thirty six years on. The fragile, crustacean-like body as been replaced by rubbery lizard-like scales and heavy muscles. The delicate non-human face has been replaced by a heavy-jawed scowling humanoid one with pointed teeth.
Not only does it not look like something that lives at the bottom of the sea it looks like every other 'monster' or 'demon' style character you've ever seen. It even manages to look more like a man in a suit than the original.
These two designs show you why Who is mostly crap nowadays. The best people are not involved in making it. Friedlander and Acheson were the best. The current design looks like it has been sketched up by some twittering prick three years out of design school.
Could have been worse though.

I always thought Zygon's looked goofy. They've probably made it look even goofier. Perhaps will work better when properly lit.

Honestly Godot I didn't even notice that second pic was the redesigned one when I saw it. They look pretty much the same. The second one looks more menacing and a bit less shit, that's about it.
