Just watched ep1 and I thought it was brilliant.
LoM was genius and I was gutted that it came to an end so soon, but for some reason I watched A2A convinced it was going to be crap.

Did you see Philip Glenister on Johnathon Ross? He was talking about that - saying he'd had lots of letters from adoring women, but was surprised anyone would be attracted to Gene Hunt and not think of him as a repulsive caveman.
The irony is these 'wimpy' men were brought about by changes in society caused largely by feminism.
