Pie in the Sky

Yes, great show, would love to see a repeat of it.

What did he say? Did he have any stories to tell or anything?

Yes we spoke a lot before and during. when I spoke to him about fees he said he doesn't charge for acting just for learning lines. And I said that's a shame because I want to do it one shot and he laughed and said great! We had it wrapped as they say in about an hour. I just wished the video quality had been better, couldn't tell on the monitor that the camera settings hadn't been properly set. But like I said a really lovely guy. Great shame.

I very much enjoyed the monologue, Richard's performance, the video as a whole. The slight lack in video quality just makes it feel all that more special, like a find.

Thank you for sharing it. :)

Auf wiedersehen, Monty.

No one's mentioned his character in The History Boys. Will the BBC show it?

No one's mentioned Naked Gun, either - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D19nGdtF-Xk

RIP. I hope A Kind Of Living gets a DVD release now, it was the best thing he did IMO

R.I.P. I first remember him from the Harry Potter films, but in the last few years realised what a wonderful actor he was, through Withnail & I and The History Boys.

Most memorable from a farcical episode of Minder, where he played the corpulent, reprobate brother of a missing pop star in a country mansion. He pushed a white grand piano into the swimming pool, I think. The Beatles song Nowhere Man was used, unusually.

Very sad. :( Poor old Uncle Vernon.

Both a very young age to die, and very surprising that he was that young! He must have been a lot younger than he looked when he was in Withnail and I.

You're bloody right. Yesterday I heard on German TV that he was only 65! He looked like a 60 years old when I saw him first in that Naked Gun movie...and that was nearly 20 years ago.

Good article. Sniff.

This is the complete Minder episode he guest-starred in, Dreamhouse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVHmpaLKOEA
One of my favourite episodes, although many fans disliked it for being a bit different.

Maybe they should sing "Bye bye blackbird" at his memorial. Might be weird, though...

Love that one pool and all !

He seemed a really good bloke. Such a shame. I loved Pie in the Sky - one of my fave dramas - and wasn't Sarah Alexander in that? (I may be wrong.)

The first thing I remember him in was as the husband of that American woman, Elaine Stritch. Hard to think that he was only 8 years older than me because she was ancient.
