Comedy that should be repeated on GOLD Page 6

Gold used to show some really good stuff back in the early 90s! I'm guessing they didn't have much to spend on shows, But they did used to show some of the lesser known/cult comedies.
Nowadays, 90% of their output seems to be BBC, and is quite modern! I wonder if the fact that the BBC has a stake in UKTV networks means that it's just a dumping ground for their sitcoms.

I recently tweeted Gold about Happy Families, and was told that it wouldn't bring in a big enough audience! Didn't seem to bother them in the past!

That's basically the reason. The BBC have always owned 50% of UKTV/Gold, having initially been a joint venture with Thames, hence the wide variety of both ITV and BBC programming they had in the 1990s.

Now, with even more channels for people to choose from, they stick to the popular series rather than offering any inkling of variety, needing to attract people to specific big-name shows rather than just get audiences because they're one of the only decent channels.

I think it's a real shame. They still pull out an occasional interesting programme or unreleased classic, but then only show it at 2 or 6 am. Sykes, Bread, etc.

I'd love a reason to watch GOLD again.

I too have noticed that there are some gems on, But at stupid o clock! :)

With technology the way it is, and the wonders of Sky +, why doesn't Gold, or paramount, put all the lesser known/cult shows on over night!

I Wrote to GOLD about this but I didn't get a reply from them.

No, I used to have a YouTube channel and I sent them a message requesting them to rerun The Two Ronnies and they closed down my channel! Angry

But that did happen though

Yes it did but the point is why shut my channel! The big meanies

What was on your channel? Copyrighted material that you did not own? A bit foolish to draw the rights holder's attention to it.

They should reshow Are You Being Served? as the late great Frank Thornton passed away. Who else agrees with me?

It occurs to me that, like them or not, The Grimleys (which I mentioned in an earlier post), Hardware, Beast & Chambers never even get a mention let alone a repeat showing.

You would have thought that, with the re-inventing of Martin Freeman as a hobbit, the re-emergence of John Bird as a "national treasure" alongside John Fortune & Rory Bremner and the subsequent ubiquitousness of Amanda Holden & Alexander Armstrong, they may have got an airing somewhere.

I still want a Beast repeat!

Rising Damp or Grace and Flavor.

How do you contact Gold?

Up The Garden Path.

I'm not quite sure how you contact them , David. I've just had a look for you but do not know. But I found out that Mrs Brown's Boys Series 1 is coming soon to GOLD. :D

Yeah I agree with you there pio231. What about The Lovers? Surely that must be repeated since it was on in 1973.

Well I know Mrs Brown's Boys are coming to GOLD soon in May it says. Miranda has started on GOLD too.

Indeed it has, Mrs Brown's Boys will probably start as soon as Miranda finishes. I already have them both on DVD anyway!
