My stand up...

Hey everyone!

I just joined this site yesterday and as an aspiring stand up comedian I thought I would share the my performances with you. The first video is of the first time I ever attempted stand up comedy in August last year (the ending is not the best but you'll see that when you watch it!). The second video is from a show I did a few weeks ago as a warm up for the BBC show I did last Thursday. The second video is a clean set compared to the first one.

First set - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOKIcbbWEL4

I hope you enjoy them and feel free to let me know what you think!

:)

You will never hear a bad review from me because I admire the absolute bollocks it takes to get up there.

You need to get to the first gag a lot lot quicker and make them much stronger. In the second video you take over a minute to get to the first (Quite lame) Luton gag.

You corpsing in the first video is something you might try to expand. (but make sure you have a final 'get out' gag) because unintentionally, that was quite funny.

You are a young lad - you can only get better.

Thank you so much for your feedback. My main problem is starting sets! To quote Louis C.K. "I don't know how to come out and just start talking". Also I don't know how I would expand the corpsing as that was just the nerves of a first performance that made me freeze up. I really want to improve so I am good enough to enter the King Gong show at the Comedy Store so I really am grateful for your feedback!

Hi Jack.

I don't really get what happened at the end of the first video. Was it the heckle that put you off or did you feel you were running out of steam?

Doing an 8-9 minute set for your first time seems like a big ask. I'll be honest, I've yet to perform myself, but a lot of the advice I've read from professionals is that you should aim for an amazing 2-3 minutes first and then push on from there. I've seen some experienced comics struggle with the 10 minute slot on Russell Howard.

I was only aiming for five minutes and it would have been five minutes but I messed everything up. What was supposed to be my last joke didn't get as big a laugh as I thought it would and since I didn't really know what I was doing I felt like I couldn't leave it there. I froze up at the end as I didn't know how to end it having told all of my jokes :/

I see. Well, hey, that's what performing your material is for. Still writing mine and it's impossible to tell if what you're saying is going to get a laugh.

You definitely have a likeable personality on stage. Keep going bro.

Thank you so much!

I have been told by quite a few people after every performance I have done (of any kind, even when I used to be in plays at school) that I have "great stage presence". I guess it's just the material I need to work on and making everything tight and smooth.

You Are great. You definitely have really a good potential future in comedy. I would go local to your local club first if it goes well. Then go to other cites in your county ! You have such good talent. Don't worry if it goes wrong you can still try again. I Believe you have a good talent. Which comedian inspires you who ever it is has done an amazing job. I Wish you luck in the future and tell us how your doing. So well done :))))))

THANK YOU SO MUCH!:$

That's honestly the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me, seriously thank you. My main comedic influences are Mitch Hedberg (he was the one that got me to start writing comedy), Bill Hicks, George Carlin and Louis C.K.

Thank you so much for your kind words!
