Queen Tribute Act Sketch

Just a quick sketch.

Interviewer
First of all I would like to congratulate you on your success.

Simon
Thanks. I suppose you could say we are the champions.

Interviewer
(LAUGHS) I see what you did there, clever. (LAUGHS AGAIN) Before the final of the competition there was immense speculation that you and your group were going to be forced to be pulled out of the competition due to the injury? (POINTS DOWN AT SIMON’S LEG. HIS LEG IS HEAVILY STRAPPED)

Simon
Yes, but the show must go on.

Interviewer
(LAUGHS) Twice now you’re on a roll.(LAUGHS) How did you feel after the judges announced your group had won the competition.

Simon
It was amazing. These are the days of our lives

Interviewer
Could you stop that now please. Its rather annoying.

Simon
Please, don’t stop me now.(LAUGHS)

Interviewer
Seriously, please, stop it. (INTERVIEWER CLEARLY LOOKING AGITATED)

Simon
Can I go now? I want to break free.(LAUGHS)

Interviewer
(INTERVIEWER PUTS DOWN PEN AND NOTEPAD, STANDS UP AND PULLS OUT GUN,SHOOTS SIMON) Another one bites the dust!

This is funny - especially if you like 'Partridge', which I do.

Is the shooting going a BIT too far?

Maybe he should be hit with a heavy object?

I like it, though. :)

Yes Paul. Yet another funny sketch. You must have quite a collection by now, all top quality. Very well done.

Considering the song titles were beginning to irritate me as much as the interviewer, I did enjoy the twist at the end. Laughing out loud

yup good. thinking achris morris stle interviewer would suit. like most sketches it's all in the casting !

Paul Carroll's 'Old School' sketch alert! ;)

I have to say I found the sketch a bit "easy": i.e. not particularly novel or creative. Not only is this sort of stuff a pub staple, but I've seen loads of sketches on here alone which use a similar "format". As such, I found it well-written but a bit tedious.

But part of it may be the difference between preferred styles of comedy.

nice and fast and funny

I think although it is a well worn path, it overcomes this by whizzing in and whizzing out.

Yep, agreed with you re: format. Initially I thought "oh, no" but the key points were it was fast and Paul turned it around at the end. But you're right, it could have been a car crash, and I thought it was going to be one.

Agreed. The ending lifts it.

A nice little sketch Paul and I like old school myself.

There's something about old school that's...erm...what's the word I want? It's on the tip of my tongue. Oh...it's...damn it's gone again. Oh yeah I've got it now!

FUNNY!

Not a trace of a "grotesque and unpleasnt character just for the sake of it" to be seen.

Nice one and yep the end lifted it nicely.

Mind it might have been funnier if the interviewer either pissed himself or threw up on the interviewee. Whistling nnocently

How about Elizabeth II comes in and shoots him - "Ah Killer Queen"!

Actually Paul I think this could go in the radio show.

Or I can come in and shoot the Queen and start the revolution... maybe not :(

Liked the sketch Paul. Don't worry about the format. Nothing is exactly novel or new in comedy. What is important is the writing, delivery and the twist you put on it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. A few people have said my sketches are "old school", what does this mean? (sorry if I sound a bit stupid) LOL. And yes David, I think it might be suitable for the radio project. Once again thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

Are these soap opera's Simon is quoting?

No Curt mate, the character is quoting Queen songs.
