What exactly are "The Rules of Comedy".

Don't ask me, you invented it.

I didn't like how you immediately wanted to make it clear that there was nothing at all gay in your fantasy - why, would that be too shocking?

Ok, I take your point. Room for improvement there. I did think about this, however and tried to temper any offence to the gay community by using the phrase 'Tommy-two-ways' which is actually meant to be a reference to bisexuality and not intended to be offensive to gay men(remember the "camping trip").
:)

I know one of the rules when quoting rules of comedy, is to always include a certain Fight Club reference.

Er... I thought there were no rules. I did'nt invent the concept of comedy either. Struggling to get your point, sorry :(

I really am a beginner here. I aint got a clue about this reference either??

I think it makes a mockery of innovation in this forum and reduces it to nothing more than a cacky, cliquey old-hat mutual admiration society.

Welcome to the CCOHMADS Wave

Good man. However, if you say that you also find the gay aspect exciting - whether you do or not - it'll make the piece stronger.

Do you guys have a special little book entitled 'Rules of Comedy Writing'?

I was referring to the above comment of yours.

In regards to this thread as a whole, the way I see it you wrote a sketch, it was poorly received, some people took it personally, some others offered a balanced opinion, you defended yourself and lashed back and no one really learned a thing. Welcome to the forum!

OK Cheers for that. :)

Well that is hairdo's point.

Hey! That's Mister Hairdo to you!

I learned plenty, thanks and still continue to. You still seem to want to attack me. Why? What is it that offended you? Sorry if I did. Offence was not my motive.

Either way, I'm going to make that stick :D

Not at all - I'm glad you learned something. If anything I'm rooting for you - your entry to this forum is quite similar to the splash I made on another writers' forum many years ago. I wrote something I now recognise as absolute garbage, took it personally when people said they didn't like it and got pissed off when others accused me of only posting for a pat on the back (which was true of course). The difference is that you've turned your anger around and started soliciting people for some detailed feedback so you can actually develop, which I think is great.

I have to admit I am surprised to see such Nicomachean ethics being extolled so early in the day.

True. It is my first attempt at being funny through writing. One thing I have learned is that what you and your mate might fall about the place laughing over does not necessarily translate very well to a larger audience. Another thing is that whilst being crude creates a stiffy, sorry stir, initially, it is difficult to sustain and follow. Plus the comments about homosexuality being better presented in an attractive positive light. And Im sure I'll learn a lot more from this if the comments continue..
