With you on that one (although I like Wanda too).

Glad to hear that there are fellow fans of this film. I remember going to see it at the flicks (as we called them in my day) when it first came out. It didn't do much box-office anywhere. One of the reasons might be that, IMHO, it was a piece which didn't suit the big screen. Has Michael Frayn written it as a TV feature it may have become regarded as a TV comedy classic.
It is a really well written and acted comedy and I also remember rather fancying the girl playing Laura at the time.
Watched this last night. Hadn't seen it for a few years, I had it free a few years back out of News of the World. It's a decent film, not fantastic but certainly watchable and enjoyable.
"Clockwise" is good and funny but "A Fish Called Wanda" is the better of the two.
"Fierce Creatures" is well worth a watch too.
Clockwise is one of those films that seems to be on every week. Like Love Actually.

I'm sure they repeat Gremlins every other day on ITV 2.
I actually haven't seen any Gremlins films in years! One day I'll treat myself
I haven't seen any of those. Too busy watching Every Which Way but Loose every day.

I apologise, I lied.
It was Any Which Way You Can yesterday. So it will probably be on for a few months now.

You know the behind-the-scenes story of Clyde the orangutan from that sequel? It allegedly died after being beaten with an axe handle by an assistant trainer. Perhaps. http://msgboard.snopes.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=print_topic;f=75;t=001212
EDIT: Sorry, that was completely off-topic. Clockwise - can only recall Cleese getting aggravated, trying to get to a meeting of headmasters - possibly accompanied by a truant school girl who looked too old to be a school girl. When he finally gets to the meeting, he loses his cool and Geoffrey Palmer looks on shocked or disapprovingly. Must re-watch.
I didn't check that link out but I do remember hearing that the second orangutan died of a cerebral hemorrhage and different reasons being given for it.
I like Clockwise but "A Fish..." has captured Jamie Lee at an important time in her life so basically can never be surpassed.
Haven't seen this film in a decade or more, but 'Are we going to the hospital?' was a family catchphrase for many years!
Nice article on Clockwise in the comedy rewind section (by Chris Hallam again, following on from the Rising Damp one). Like Zooo says above (in 2013!) it's one of those films that seems to be often on telly, I seem to watch it, or at least bits of it, every couple of years. Interesting to see Michael Palin's reaction to it.
I suppose I imagined Cleese was always the choice for the role from the start so was surprised he wasn't. Cleese was ideal, but I could certainly imagine the article's hypothetical suggestion of Rowan Atkinson as a suitable alternative (presumably not quite as strict as the headmaster he played in that old 'Fatal Beatings' live skit!)
