BBC Transgender Comedy Writing Competition...FFS!! Page 18

Wasn't meant to be. None of the Writers threads register on Active Threads so it tends not to snag my attention often.

Yeah they do, think you have to tick writer option in your profile page.

Did anyone submit a script called Over The Rainbow Ep 1 - BBC tweeted that it doesn't have a cover sheet and they're asking the writer to contact them

Funnily enough that's how I imagine the BCG meet-ups to look like.

Bollocks.
Looks like someones nicked the plot to my entry.

Looks like they've sent out an acknowledgement to all of us what did include a cover sheet...they say they received 'over 300 entries' (by which I'm hoping they mean 301) and a further update is to come in 'a few weeks'. Don't know if they've received less than they expected (think they originally said late May for successful writers to be contacted?), or if that update will just be to say they're starting to work through a shortlist. Here endeth the update. ;)

I think Writersroom said they received 1200 scripts for The Writer's Prize and 1800 (ish) for Autumn Script Room, so 300 is certainly a lot less scripts to plug through.

Mind you, as it's such a niche subject, I'm sure they didn't expect entries to hit 1000+.

6 Good scripts

Got the official thanks but no email today - anyone here do any better?

I made the longlist. Which was nice.

Well done JohnnyD! That's impressive and means some big names like your script.

And indeed well done radiat10n for sending something in. I'd no idea where to start so never even got round to writing something for it.

Thanks, Stephen.

But, sadly, I think the big names only get involved with the shortlist - which I know I haven't made.

Well done JohnnyD.

I got the generic "thanks but no thanks" email. Not too disheartened with this one though, I knew it would be a tough one to get right as it is hard to know exactly what they are looking for. Unlike most of the stuff I write it wasn't something I meticulously planned out beforehand, this was more of a straight from head to page script.

Is it jut me, or did it take them an unaturally long time to decide, especially as I imagine they got fewer scripts than their other competitions.

Congrats to those who got through, though.

I've uploaded my script to Circalit if any one wants to read it. Although Circalit doesn't seem to be working at the minute for me...but that might just be my computer!

So you wrote all bar 6 of them?

Cheers Stephen, I put all my eggs in the one basket and concentrated on this at the expense of NJ and SWYW (though the 3 week holiday in New Zealand during March was the real killer for the latter!) - knew it was a risk, but even though nothing came of it, at least I got my first full sitcom script out of the process, and know that the next one will be much better (and more marketable to other places after being rejected the first time!), so am happy I went for it regardless.

And well done indeed Johnny, you were obviously close to what they were after at least.
