Derek - Series 1 Page 20

Well comedy is subjective, isn't that what we're told?
Even if some folks don't find Derek amusing, well, anything that beats the sheer cringing crassness and mugging of Miranda or 70s panto knicker-flashing of Mrs. Brown's Boys, has to be an improvement.
I dare say Molly Sugden in That's My Boy was more amusing than these latest offerings for mainstream comedy.
Thing not to get mixed up is judging Gervais rather than his offerings - bit like thinking of Paul McCartney as opposed to The Beatles or analysing a superb oil painting by Margaret Thatcher. But how many comedies have the poignancy and nous to show real old people - and mix archive footage of how they were when they were younger as they did in one episode? You'd have to be dead from the neck up not to moved by such imagery.
Strange, I've never actually seen a Panorama doc in the style of Derek but if it was AS enjoyable, I'd watch the flagship doc series more.

Hello Ricky, nice of you to join us. Could you write something funny for the next series please?

Now that's witty! But sorry to disappoint. I don't even share Gervais' underpants DNA.

Underpants, you say?

Although this show isn't perfect, I am glad it's got another series. I hope the next series is more like episode 5 than the first few, as I think it's got noticeably better.

Thank you for your educated opinion despite not having watched it. ;)

I've watched it all zooo and Mc...whatever his name is is right, the elderly are just window dressing.

As for the recommission, I'm not too fussed. It is rubbish but it's oddly watchable old tat. Like Hitman, which I watched last night, that was rubbish but oddly watchable.

I don't object at all to someone saying it's shit, but I don't think it's wise to boast about how you've barely watched something and then give your opinion on it. It comes across as rather silly.

I didn't actually say it was shit, I made an observation in reaction to another poster whose opinion I disagreed with, based on what I'd seen (and I was open about how little that was). Sorry if it struck a nerve for some reason. I saw the pilot and about 15 minutes of the first episode, for what it's worth. Do I qualify for comment?

On the bit you saw, yes!
I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go though, sorry.

Aw.

I liked this latest one more, apart from the patronising bits of the old people and the audience.

I'm looking forward to finding out what the huge pay-off about Kevin is.

There so won't be one now.

I'm holding you, zooo, personally responsible if that's the case.

Here's Gervais talking about the show to Richard Bacon last week
