90% of the jobs on Monster, SimplyHired, Gumtree (etc.) are:
Telesales
Street Harassment
Work From Home (Pyramid schemes etc.)
Commission-only lettings agents
Unpaid internships of 3-6 months in low-demand industries (i.e. slave labour), or "training courses"Cherry-picking the remaining 10% of generic office admin positions, will lead to each one taking you off to some other site for which you have to register to apply.
Said site will then spam the crap out of you with random and completely unconnected vacancies.
90% of these applications will go unreplied, with a further 9% sending a standard cut-paste rejection letter.
That leaves the surviving 1% of applications, for whom you'll take several interviews (with expensive travel), before losing out to one of the other 6732864728642892384 university graduates who applied, or the manager's nephew.
And don't get me f**king started on companies who ask for a CV, and yet make you fill-in their time-consuming forms about your work experience and qualifications. Read the f**king CV, you twats.
You have my sympathy! I don't miss those days at all. I still bear an extreme hatred towards employment agencies who treat you like product and then give you shit and take you off the books when you turn down the opportunity to make a 4 hour round trip to cover someone's lunch break for £6 an hour.
