Scary Music

In relation to this new show I have a question someone may know the answer to.
If I ask for scary music as a backdrop to a thriller sketch and request they use Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre, would they do it or would it incur royalties?

If it's royalty issue I can do my own recording as I play a very sinister comb and it will come as no surprise to many but I know a trick or two about making really annoying noises.
But it is a serious question

Hey Teddy,

I believe the BBC has a blanket music licensing deal, so rarely has to pay extra royalties for individual pieces of music.

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks for that Tate, I might go all out and do a musical sketch or two on the strength of that info.
The Historical section is rife for a bastardised version of Jerusalem outlining the tale of how Lord Palmerston was arrested for possession of Laudanum.

Perhaps a gay Dalek singing a tweaked version of 'I wanna take you to a Gay Bar' could be placed in the Sci Fi section.

And the Kitchen sink drama is screaming out for an adaptation of 'Beauty School Drop out' from Grease.

Nigel that was a full blown reply, I hope you had a tie on when you wrote that. Thanks for taking the time and offering bang on the money info!

Hello Teddy. if the music you are asking about is in the public domain under a attribute 3.0 you can use it for free but you have to attribute the music to the original composer on the credits. if it is in the public domain it will come under the fair use act and you can use at will.

but if it isn't then you either contact the holders of the musical licence and ask permission to use it or use something that is in the public domain and you will have no worries.

I think the best way would be to mention in the sketch to play eerie public domain music, but say you want it to sound like Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre.

For example:

GRAMS: Scary music plays. Think "Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre."
