Morning,
More advice. Currently using Celtx as it's free and it formats stuff...but it's starting to annoy now, it's buggy, you have to be online to make it a PDF, American spellcheck.

Does it? Mine seems to be fine exporting PDFs (maybe I'm always 'on-the-line', as you say?

Seem to be plenty of templates in Google docs: https://drive.google.com/templates?q=screenplay&sort=hottest&view=public

This looks pretty similar: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1--XcIezmQJXjqQ7O2pWWQXM1bZpFSBBFB_gQ6RxzR24/edit
(TAB-bing between columns seems to work in a quick go)

Shrug, dunno why some of you lot want to go to the effort of doing it all yourselves, when I've done it all for you, with all my computer expertise.

It's more than just a template system, it assigns keystrokes to characters, so that by a simple key press you become the character and the words flow without having to type the character's name and without any distracting thoughts as to whether or not the formatting is right.

Watch the videos to see how easy it is to use.

These videos are done with Windows XP and Word 2003, but the procedures are very similar for Windows7 with Word 2007/2010, so users with later software are still be able to use these tutorials.

Creating PDFs from MS word or any other program is trivial if you install a PDF pseudo-printer such as PDF995. http://www.pdf995.com/

Seriously, I can quite understand people balking at the £100-and-somthing some of these packages cost, but at less than £30...?

Fair play to you though, free is pretty hard to argue with!

I'm not talking of Final Draft or Movie Magic or even CeltX (which takes a totally different tack on things), just those who want to do it in MS Word by devising their own Styles & things.

Which one is that picture, it's too small to see.

It's actually a screen capture of the Scrivener file I'm working on - in index card mode.
Different kettle of fish, really - but certainly the single best writing tool I've ever worked with.
:)

Scrivener file? is this a thing for keeping track of notes, documents? should I throw away my little black note book and become up to date. :D

looks complicated. Whistling nnocently that pic you posted looks like my kitchen wall.

It's as complicated as you want it to be really.
Takes a slight change in mindset to start with, but worth the effort.

does this Scrivener file thing come with final draft 8?

Nope.
It's a stand alone program for organising writing projects.

I've been using Fade In a lot recently, being able to sync between the App & my Mac has been great for getting work done while commuting.

I use WORD and the TAB button. Cutting edge.

An addendum to my post on Scrivener:

Just finished a full screenplay - the first on this software, and it was a really, really good way of working.
The export to FD8 was seamless - just a couple of extra spaces to delete.
But would equally well export to PDF or RTF, or whatever if you don't use FD.
A thoroughly nice way of working.

Have bought scrivener... have not a clue how to use it :)

I was reduced to buying this!
Worth it once you get your head round it, though.
