Comic Song.

I've asked about this in a couple of other places. I am sure as eggs is eggs that there was was a commercial/sketch/TV opening sequence parodying "English Country Garden" but replacing it with "English Company Washroom" This was the 80s. And it had the line:

"Toilet rolls that disappear, causing untold stress and fear".

Did I really make this up?

Sounds like it might be Not The Nine O'clock News, or maybe Three Of A Kind, but I'm not too sure.

Sounds more like The Two Ronnies to me...

That toilet roll line was from an advert,I think yhe opening line was something like"How many hidden horrors lie in wait in an English country bathroom" I've no idea what the ad was for.

I seem to remember singing something similar when in primary school but no idea where it came from. So this post is only helpful in reassuring you you're not going mad

I remember "Alas Smith and Jones" doing this song. Apparently the way to get an "English Country Garden" was to pretend there was body buried in one and get the rozzers to do the work...

is it not this??

No I'm sure what the OP is refering to was an advert.

I agree with Red Zed that this sounds more like The Two Ronnies to me...!!

I too have been looking for this for a long time, I think was for an advert shown a few times in the 80s.
Bits I remember.....
Toilet rolls that dissapear causing untold stress and fear,
People who sit on the toilet too long,
Then you slip and you trip and you bump your rump in an English country washroom.

Wish I could find the whole thing its driving me mad.

The song was an advert, but I really can't remember for whom.

The lyrics I remember are;

How many hidden horrors lie in wait in an english company washroom?
Toilet rolls that dissapear causing untold stress and fear,
Soap that skulks on a slimy floor,
so you slip and you trip and you bump your rump,
in an English country washroom.

I only lived in the UK from the summer of '85 till the spring of '86, so it had to have aired during that time period.
