My vote for worst would go to According to Bex or maybe Thieves Like Us.

I rather enjoyed Thieves Like Us.

Why someone would dilgently tune in to a show designed to make them laugh that only results in them venting spleen on the internet is beyond me. Unless maybe they're just born whingers.

Agree about the venting, but for aspiring writers it can be worth watching failed sitcoms to try and work out what went wrong.

BBC's "Big Top" starring Amanda Holden was absolutely terrible. Johhny Vaughan's "Orrible" was pretty bad as well.

I liked "The Trip", and even "Hyperdrive" had some good moments, although it wasn't very good really.

I don't like "Curb Your Enthusiasm", though I loved "Seinfeld".

I'm surprised to see Saxondale mentioned in this thread. I keep hoping for a third series, although it looks doubtful at this point.

So am I. I could understand it being in a 'not liked' thread, but it belongs nowhere near a 'worst' thread. It was a high quality prog. Coogan's acting was very good, especially when he was playing other characters.

If you ask me I think there are some non Coogan fans Angry among us with some jealousy issues, perhaps. Saxondale is a class prog.

I first mentioned Saxondale and I'm a massive Coogan fan.

It's just you hoped it would be up to the astronomically high standards set by all things Partridge - and Saxondale clearly isn't.

It's not that Saxondale is bad - obviously isn't.

It's just it was a bit of a let down.

IMO!

But I don't compare it to Partridge because it was clear from the first episode that Saxondale was not only a totally different character but the sitcom was in a different style. For me it added to Coogan's breathtaking range in comedy and reminded me much more of his early days as Paul Calf. I never thought of Partridge once while watching it because I knew AP was only one character in a list of great Coogan characters.

Saxondale was Saxondale.

Mad About Alice gets my vote. The theme was out-of-tune, a wooden kid managed to out act Jamie Theakston, and those are the better points: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jPI34P65Cc

I couldn't bear Saxondale because of the character's accent and mannerisms. It's a pity because I'm a big fan of Coogan.

I'm not saying it's the worst sitcom ever though, I'll have a think about that one...

I fully agree, absolute and absolute rubbish and irritation.

This coming from a fan of On The Buses....

I watched The Trip a couple of times and found it more or less excruciating. Now I can't bear to watch anything with either Steve Coogan or Rob Brydon in it, which can hardly have been their intention.

I did like Nathan Barley though - the 'Geek Pie' episode was classic. But I live in London so see a lot of those sort of people.

Big top gets my vote but The Persuasionists is a close second.

Last Of The Summer Wine for me, absolute crap. And Rising Damp.

Dad's Army.

That. You don't have to like these two shows...but to label them with "worst sitcom" is what I don't understand. So many candidates to choose from in the "sea of crapness", there must be some among them that deserve your hatred more than those two classics.

I can only answer from a personal point of view.

I happen to really like Rising Damp but Dad's Army... Does nothing for me. I've tried to watch it, I know lots of people love it, but I have never laughed at a single thing in it... Not one and that makes it " worst " just for me.

I'm sure there is a 'sea of crapness' ( maybe ones that I'd dislike even more ) but, to be honest, most of the ones mentioned above I've never heard of, let alone seen. I can only go on what I know.
I understand lots of people will think I've lost my marbles but it doesn't make me laugh, at all, and I don't like any of the characters in it.

There must have been one line, at least, in Two pints of Lager or it would have been that because I'm overwhelmed by a desire to punch all the characters in that square in the face.
