Thanks for all comments
God and Paxo
Lovely idea, good believable dialogue - very much reminds me of something the Not The Nine O Clock News guys would've come up with. And even a Chesney Hawkes reference, what more could you want?
Possibly erring on the long side though - and the last line bothers me. Not because I'm a prude, but because it seems an easy way out. It seems to cheapen the rest of a nice intelligent sketch.
I'm with PN here-that last line does cheapen the sketch-why would it make the audience gasp? Its not surprising in any way.Paxo's famous for being dismissive and 'above' the people he interviews in this way-he usually ends such interviews by cutting the person off as if they dont matter and moving on to the next segment. I dont have a suggestion for the ending but think it'd be a shame to keep it like this when something else would work better. The idea of 'god-like' Paxo interogating God is great though. Any chance he could do Allah next...
Perhaps the interviewer could end by saying
Oh, I wondered where I was going wrong
Thanks for your comments, Nitey.
I do see what you and Perry mean but I still think the current ending works in its own way and is really funny.
I'm not saying there isn't a better ending. There probably is - but then it would be a different sketch.
Feel free to suggest an ending if one should come to you.

I prefer the 'c**t' ending. I can imagine Paxo saying that, eyebrows a-quiver.
I'm not entirely sure the sketch covers any new ground though - what I mean is, it's a pretty common conceit for people to say "look at wars, the old testament God etc., and they say He is love. Pff!". In that sense the delivery may have been competent, but I found the content lacking - it just didn't surprise.
As such it didn't make me laugh. I thought the best bit was when Paxman cut through the crap and called God a c**t!
I should point out that I'm a staunch adversary of unnecessary and gratuitous swearing and sexual references in comedy.
However, when they're appropriate they can work really well and I'm more than happy to use them.
Some people like the sketch UP TO the last line, while others (e.g. James) will like the last line and not much that comes before it.
Hopefully, there'll be others who like it ALL.
Or is that too much to hope for?
Chimes,
Basically similar reactions to that on Writersdock, just less fawning.
You're a good writer and I like most of what you do.
I may have missed it but do you have you anything with more actual gags?
That's not a criticism of this in anyway, just an interest.
I thought it was well written in that the dialogue flowed well and made me want to read to the end.
I also agree that the ending has to be harsh - I would stick with the word you have, though obv it would be bleeped.
I thought you maybe missed a trick in that, if you have Paxo as the interviewer, why not have him hammering God on one point, parodying the Paxo interview with Michael Howard from a few years back. Having god in a stumbling, Howard type role would amuse me!
"Did you threaten to overrule him?"
Quote: Chimes of Freedom @ February 5, 2008, 7:45 PMCheers, Perry.
If done on TV, the last word would have to be bleeped of course - but no other word works.
I don't want to discourage you, but the only way you're going to see that sketch on TV is if you sellotape it to the screen. It was weaker than a baby's hard on.

The very line I need!

My knowledge and experience of children's sexual reactions is, I'm afraid, zero.
You obviously know quite a lot about it.
How's the 'research' going?
Any thoughts of emigrating to Thailand?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see it's style over substance.
Just because it references religion, and you use a deliberately Chris Morris tone, doesn't disguise the fact is really has no humour in it at all.
Come on, Seefacts.
You'd give your right goolie to be able to write anything HALF as good as this sketch.

Are you going to call everyone who doesn't like your stuff a paedophile? You'll end up with a nose like Tycho Brahe.
You're still averaging 0 jokes per post.
