Sorry!
But it does seem to be able to appeal to a pretty broad group, so that must be a good thing.

Ditto!
I just can't take this people who say it's the wrong type of pig and Clarence should be emaciated seriously. It's just a fun show.
For Aaron and Zooo.
I bloody love a slide whistle.
"Fancy a sausage?"
"I think that's quite enough 'Dog Joy' for this afternoon."
I loved the Blandings books and have such strong images of what the characters should look like, I was always going to be disappointed.
Yes, well a well acted piece of gentle comedy from the veterans and some ridiculous over the top mugging from the hammy youngsters. When the Wodehouse dialogue is allowed to shine through the general nonsense it does impress.
Jings, sounds like something for the Wodehouse devotees to avoid. Stephen Fry once wrote/said something to the effect of: the only reason he and Hugh Laurie agreed to do Jeeves and Wooster was because they didn't want it to be done badly by others. He said the biggest joy of Wodehouse is the language and any dramatization could only "scratch the surface" of the greatness of the language. Couldn't really do it justice. And he pointed out that "a scratched surface is a defiled surface". So there's a risk that dramatizations would make these great tales crap. So much was lost in Wodehouse Playhouse, which was fun nonetheless. I read at least four Wodehouses a year and don't think I'll be watching Blandings if it has been dumbed down.

It's not as bad as Piccadilly Jim...
Ep 1 full of mugging - feck off Jennifer Saunders - clumsy direction and a stupid soundtrack designed to hammer home that it's all whimsical nonsense. The adaptation was decent and it was all in the script. Trust the source material, you dicks. It doesn't need hitting over the head.
Quote: Lazzard @ January 21 2013, 9:50 AM GMTSeems to sit somewhere between "Worzel Gummidge" and "Mapp & Lucia".
Having said that, my entire family (youngest 8) sat and watched it together, enjoyed it up to a ptoint, and will probably gather to watch it again next week.
Which is what telly used to be like.
As indeed they would with Worzel and Mapp and Lucia both brilliant shows...?
I don't think it was classic TV, but better than most stuff kids watch.
ANACHRONISM ALERT: Va va voom; First noted in 1989, may date back to the 50s, but still...
I would just like to add how amusing it is that on the BCG's homepage for today it describes Baxter as an "anal secretary". Bum job!
Heeeelp! Who is this actor?
He was in episode four, but not listed in the cast list anywhere.
It's doing my head in.
