The Weather Page 120

:D Freezin here in Manc!

Every conceivable school shut tomorrow except my sons! Sod it anyway as my daughters is closed and I am not driving to school on a bleedin icerink.

It's silly

When I were a lad I remember wading through snow up to my waste to go to school

My school never ever closed

I read about one headteacher sleeping in their school overnight so as to be able to open...he must be in line for a most hated award.

Any one seen that Facebook page of people going starker in the snow

Thankfully not ;)

Aw, what a trooper though!
(Or trouper? Hmm.)

My nightmare 28 hour journey home has given me a working from home day tomorrow. Just as well really, we've had quite a lot of snow, I didn't fancy having to schlep into work tomorrow!

Hurray!

Can the weather affect broadband speed?
I'm having terrible problems at the moment.

Rain & Ice get into any joints in the telephone system that have not been waterproofed properly and that can make your line 'noisy' at phone frequency ranges and at broadband frequency ranges, this means that it has to retransmit packets of data frequently because the prior copy get spoiled. so the net result is that the useful speed of your broadband drops drastically.

Pick up your phone, press one digit to cancel dial tone and listen, if it is noisy, report it to your supplier, usually BT.

F***in' cold but sunny here.

Blue sky, sun is shining, -13°C. Great day

Yeah, but you are used to it in Finland and you have enough snow ploughs and winter tyres and things.

Here in the UK we get all panicy when the temp drops below 0 deg C, we have very few snow ploughs and the councils can't put much salty sand in bins by the road, because by the time it is needed, it turns out it has all been nicked by people to put on their paths & own drives. So then of course the road is covered by cars, buses and trucks sliding every which way but loose trying to drive on snow with summer tyres and the salt-gritting trucks can't get through because many roads are blocked by a skewed truck which can't be moved easily because both sides of the road are lined with parked cars and if the skewed truck slides any more it will crush some of those cars...

And there are icy leaves on the train tracks because the trains don't have scraper blades on the front, so they skid instead of brake and ice jams the points because they don't have heated pivots so they can't route the trains quickly so all the trains are late.

That's a British Winter !

>_< :| Sick

And then the politcians all say, we're mainly a temparate country. And if you want proper gritters, it'll cost you an aircraft carrier, 10 hospitals and the Queens birthday party. You unpatriotic bastard!
